Is Rita Atkinson Residences the best dorm at UCSD?
Students rated Rita Atkinson Residences a 3.6/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
pros: pretty clean and nice looking compared to the older dorms cons: rooms are small and pretty far from campus
An apartment at Rita Atkinson Residences consists of two mini doubles, a bathroom, two sinks, kitchen, and living room. The rooms are a bit small, but manageable. There is housekeeping that comes weekly to clean. The location of Rita Atkinsons Residences is a bit far from campus, but not too bad.
F--k yeah concrete. Only major complaint about Rita is the small rooms they call "doubles" a.k.a. single with two people crammed in and a bunk bed and the location on campus being on the very south end of campus with a 20 minute walk anywhere making wheels a necessity.
Note: It's a mini double, not a double. Pros: - New/modern building (originally graduate building) - Personal router per apartment - Weekly cleaning - Get your own living room/kitchen (both small) - Next to a park structure/library (wongavery - extremely underrated)/club med (great sandwiches/breakfast burritos) - Access to cheapest meal plan ($1980) bc mini doubles - Have access to a small gym and game room - COMFORTABLE COUCH Cons: - Concrete walls make apartments look unappealing (been told by friends it looks like a dungeon and i agree) - Farthest end on campus, so to get to library walk is around 15 min by walking. I personally don't mind, but you will definitely need to get an electric scooter to go around. - Possibility of bad roommates (that's everywhere tho) - Bunk beds (If you're tall and on the top bunk, you'll hit your head on the ceiling a lot) - Water leaks from the walls when there is heavy rain - Basic bathroom and nothing luxurious - Hard to really be social with other people - Have to pay more for dryer in laundry room because it doesn't dry all the way w/ default setting My overall experience here at Rita has been more positive than negative, but it really depends on you. I have chill, understanding roomies (3) and I personally don't mind taking walks towards campus. Having your own kitchen and living room is really nice, esp after a long day bc sometimes I just knock out on the couch. I sleep on the top bunk, but make sure you get a comforter. There are times where the lobby gives out stuff for free (like finals week). Otherwise, pretty chill for an apartment.
Pros: - cleaning takes place once a week - decent room sizes - enough space for bathroom, kitchen, and living room Cons: - rooms are very close together - can get loud since the walls are thin and not noise proof - can get packed in the laundry room and the washer machines are not completely efficient in cleaning clothes
