Is Tuolumne Apartments the best dorm at UCSD?

Students rated Tuolumne Apartments a 3.1/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.

Constant water shut-offs. We are unable to use the showers or toilets for up to 24 hours. Already at least 10 water shutoffs by the second week of winter quarter. Some washing machines in the single laundry room for the entirety of Tuolumne are out of order, sometimes the entire laundry room. Elevator is slow. Noise from the street and tennis/basketball courts nearby.

Depending on where your dorm is located in Tuolumne, you will either have [1] A big kitchen and medium/small living space or [2] A very small kitchen and a very large living space (I was placed in a [2] layout). The room size is very reasonable for a single (I got the largest single in the dorm room). There are 4 rooms : 2 smaller singles, 1 moderately-sized single, and 1 large room for a double. The bathroom layout is two separate rooms :, 1 with a shower and tub only, 1 toilet only, connected by an open sink area with two sinks. The windows are thick to block out road traffic on N. Torrey Pines road. The walls are also much thicker than the average room, so hearing your roommate from their room was never an issue (unless they are yelling, etc.). The room comes with the following per person : 1 bed frame with a mattress, 1 desk with a movable 3 tier shelf, 1 plastic desk chair, 1 wardrobe with a movable 2-drawer shelf. There are no ugly blinds to block out light; it is a roller shade. Our unit also came with a fridge, microwave, sink, oven and stove. There is office lighting in the living room (blue, cool-colored lighting) which I despise. The living area comes with an L-shaped blue sofa, a yellow reclining/rocking chair, a coffee table, a tv stand/shelf thing, a nightstand with a table lamp, a standing lamp. It also comes with a dining table with 4 plastic chairs (the same ones near your desk). Additional features : walk-in pantry, balcony (depending where you live in Tuolumne). Things to look out for : if you move into a single, one of the rooms may have the wifi box on the ceiling and the flashing light may be annoying, so cover it up with a thick, dark-colored tape. Amenities : Laundry Room (2nd floor), N-lounge (3rd floor), bike parking, in front of MOM's cafe. In-depth laundry room details : 8 washers, 8 dryers, 1 sink, cabinet with storage shelves, seating, trash can. In front of the laundry room are one snack vending machine and 1-2 drink vending machines. Rooftop access on the 5th floor (only on either side of the L-shape of Tuolumne). Trash and Recycling for Tuolumne is located next to the level 1 elevator. Tuolumne also has 3 stairwells and 1 elevator. Close proximity to PINES, ROOTS, MOM's and John's Market. There are Amazon Hub lockers for Muir, located next to the commuter lounge (behind Roots). Notes : There is a thermostat that goes from (65.0 (lowest) to 75.0 (or higher [not sure] ). This is the set up for our apartment. It may differ or be the same/similar in other apartments It was really nice living in Tuolumne!

The apartments in Tuolumne are pretty spacious. Each apartment has 3 singles and 1 double, so a total of 5 residents. The kitchens are pretty cramped but they work okay. The location is pretty nice since it’s close to John’s market and Sixth market. It’s also close to Pines and Roots. It’s very green here with all the nice foliage. If you’re lucky, you can get a room with windows facing the ocean. All the apartments also have balconies which we appreciate. As a person living in a single, I really like my dorm. The dorms are pretty spacious and utilities work fine. The one thing is the shower situation. Sometimes, the hot water will disappear for a quick minutes and come back spontaneously. Also, sometimes the laundry machines don’t work that great.

The cons are random people can just like come near your dorm. Some people just leave trash near your door. ): Also, walls are really thin. You can hear everything. The pipes sound like they are about to break. The pros are you get a balcony if you are in the second floor or above. The rooms are kind of tiny but nice and you have enough space.
