Matthews Apartments Reviews
UC San Diego The Village at Pepper Canyon East
Reviews Summary
Matthews Apartments is a well-located dorm known for its proximity to the trolley station, making travel and grocery shopping convenient for students without a car. The area has a cozy, homey feel due to its older design, featuring white walls and popcorn ceilings. Despite the spacious rooms, accommodating either doubles or triples, the dorm faces criticism for its small bathroom shared by six residents, which often leads to discomfort. The kitchen is compact with limited storage, posing challenges for multiple roommates who like to cook. While the common areas include a living room, carpet floors, and some dated furnishings, such as sofas and couches, there are concerns about cleanliness and maintenance, particularly in the bathroom. Despite these issues, students appreciate the overall space, accessibility to nearby facilities like Foodworx dining hall, and the apartment-like feel of the building. However, it might be inconvenient for students who need to attend classes in other parts of the campus, as it is far from several key academic areas.

Location wise, Matthews Apartments is a great place to be; close to trolley, not far from main campus, some nature, etc. I live in a double and the room is honestly really big so that's a plus. However, bathroom is so incredibly small and very uncomfortable for a total of 6 girls living together! Not to mention the small size of the kitchen and refrigerator; there's barely any space for a lot of things.

I really love how close to the trolley this area is. It makes it so easy to get groceries and get around especially since I don’t have a car. I would say this apartment is very homey and nice because of its old feel. It has white walls and popcorn ceiling so it doesn’t feel to different from a regular house. I would say that it kinda sucks how the toilet and bathroom are in the same room since you will be sharing with 5 other people. But for the most part I would say the rooms are pretty spacious and you get a full sized closet.

6 girls one bathroom :(
The location is great though right in front of the trolly station and bus stop so you don't have to walk too far.

Carpet floors, tiny bathroom, maybe mold in bathroom, popcorn ceiling(might season your bed), one fridge, 2 storage rooms, a pantry, table with 4 chairs, a balcony if upper floors, a sofa, 2 couches, some light fixtures, a dusty old vaccum that is probably creating a lot of biohazard gas.
Overall, it's very okay, glad ot have a space but I never really feel great being in the restroom. Carpet also is questionable and I'm not sure if they even clean couches between years. I think it's quite comfortable for space, I live in a triple and there's a good amount of space for 3 people but my roomates do not like the ceilings as they're low and it's hard to get up and down without absolutely making it snow on your bed. Fridge will be a problem if...

Pros: next to trolly station, next to Foodworx
Cons: ONE bathroom for a house of 6 girls total, old appliances, and small kitchen

Nice living room and pretty big rooms for dorms. Doubles are a good size and the single is decent. Kitchen could be a bit bigger, not a lot or space to put essential items. Bathroom has toilet and shower in the same place which reallt sucks. Also closest dining hall is Foodworx 💀💀💀💀💀. Parking is hard to come by too. Its pretty far from everything too, you will have to walk pretty far if you have classes in Revelle, Muir, Sixth, ERC.
I still enjoy the place though, I like how it feels more like an apartment than a first year dorm. It feels cozy and homey. Its also right next to the trolley, the closest apartment to it actually. Super easy to get to places because of it. Pretty close to Warren which is good for CS majors haha.
