Is Africa Hall the best dorm at UCSD?

Students rated Africa Hall a 4.3/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.

Yes, we are far from main campus, but there are many shuttles, and I personally liked that practically no one was in our living area except ERC kids. The triples are actually more spacious that you think, and they all get a nice view to the ocean. The common areas are HUGE and perfect to hang out, party, chill or simply spend an evening doing homework. The restrooms are definitely the best out of all the other colleges, although they sometimes smell odd. Big windows everywhere. The walls and ceilings are VERY THIN, you can hear a normal conversation from upstairs if you are on the top bunk, so i definitely recommend ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The freshman dorms have elevators, so it is really nice. the floors are interconnected through stairs and balconies on the back and there are two entrances, if your suite doesn't lock these anyone can pretty much come in without a key/ card, even outsiders since we are on the literal edge of the campus. Our cafeteria is visually pretty and has a diverse menu (not the best, but diverse). Overall, I feel like these are one of the NICEST dorms on school. The building structure facilitates communication with other floors and still privacy when needed. We get open areas on the building and outside. Literally no one goes to that area unless they live there so it's very peaceful and close knit compared to other areas of UCSD, it truly feels like a small community where you know many ppl and everyone minds their own business.

The ERC dorm suites are supposed to be way larger than the other colleges (not 100% sure about this, my only experience is with ERC). I personally found the rooms to be spacious and very liveable, and I really enjoyed my stay in the first year suite. The bathrooms were fine. Cafe V, the closest dining hall, had somewhat variable food quality based on the day's menu, but for the most part it tended to be much emptier than other dining halls so time was usually a much lower issue. ERC is somewhat far from other parts of campus, especially Revelle, but I found that I could walk to pretty much any part of campus from my dorm in about 10-15 minutes. The dorm is also really close to the beach so that's nice. My experience was a bit skewed just due to having a single, but I don't think I knew of people having a strong issue with the triples where the issue was caused by the dorm itself (most if not all issues stemmed from roommate incompatibility rather than the actual room quality). The relative distance of ERC from the center of campus means that for the most part it's going to be a much more relaxed and quiet environment compared to the busy classroom hubs in some of the other colleges.
