Rita Atkinson Residences Reviews

UC San Diego

Reviews Summary

Rita Atkinson Residences is a modern dormitory primarily designed for transfer students, offering a mix of convenience and challenges. The building is relatively new and well-maintained, with weekly cleaning services that help keep the environment tidy. Each apartment features two mini double rooms, a shared bathroom, and modest living and kitchen spaces. Despite the neatness, the rooms are small and can feel cramped, especially with the presence of bunk beds. Its location on the southern end of the campus makes it a 15-20 minute walk to the main library, necessitating an electric scooter for quicker commutes. Additionally, the concrete walls, while sturdy, give the rooms a dungeon-like aesthetic that some may find unappealing. Noise can be an issue due to thin walls, and the laundry facilities are often crowded and inefficient. However, residents benefit from a personal router, access to a gym, a game room, and proximity to shopping areas and dining options. Overall, Rita Atkinson Residences provides a comfortable living option with a communal yet semi-isolated atmosphere, suitable for those who appreciate their own space amidst a college setting.

Pros: Clean and new(er) building! Overall Rita environment feels really close since it is transfer housing and we are somewhat isolated from the main campus!! 10 min walk to whole foods and other areas of shopping! Kitchen and bathtub (shared between 4 people)!!

Cons: A tad farther away from main campus and dining halls but, you get used to it! The elevators tend to break occasionally so 🥲🥲🥲. Smaller than average dorm room but, manageable in my opinion.

Pros:
- cleaning takes place once a week
- decent room sizes
- enough space for bathroom, kitchen, and living room

Cons:
- rooms are very close together
- can get loud since the walls are thin and not noise proof
- can get packed in the laundry room and the washer machines are not completely efficient in cleaning clothes

An apartment at Rita Atkinson Residences consists of two mini doubles, a bathroom, two sinks, kitchen, and living room. The rooms are a bit small, but manageable. There is housekeeping that comes weekly to clean. The location of Rita Atkinsons Residences is a bit far from campus, but not too bad.

Note: It's a mini double, not a double.

Pros:
- New/modern building (originally graduate building)
- Personal router per apartment
- Weekly cleaning
- Get your own living room/kitchen (both small)
- Next to a park structure/library (wongavery - extremely underrated)/club med (great sandwiches/breakfast burritos)
- Access to cheapest meal plan ($1980) bc mini doubles
- Have access to a small gym and game room
- COMFORTABLE COUCH

Cons:
- Concrete walls make apartments look unappealing (been told by friends it looks like a dungeon and i agree)
- Farthest end on campus, so to get to library walk is around 15 min by walking. I personally don't mind, but you will definitely need to get an electric scooter to go around.
- Possibility of bad ...

F--k yeah concrete. Only major complaint about Rita is the small rooms they call "doubles" a.k.a. single with two people crammed in and a bunk bed and the location on campus being on the very south end of campus with a 20 minute walk anywhere making wheels a necessity.
