Is Hawthorn Hall the best dorm at UC Davis?

If you're a STEM major, Hawthorn is a great dorm to live in due to its proximity with some of the STEM buildings and lecture halls (Sci Lec 123, Sci Lab, the Silo, the Dairy Facility) While not technically the newest set of dorms to be built on campus, it is still a very nice building and holds very well. Hawthorn is also a short walk away from the Tercero Dining Commons and Market. Each floor has an open lounge space and multiple restrooms that are shared between residents. Although many of the rooms are triples and are a bit on the smaller end, it is still very easy to live in such a 'confined' area. (If it helps, in triples, lofting all three beds gives you a bit more space). On the first floor, there is a Study Lounge with a few whiteboards and expo markers where students can go to study if they choose too and a laundry room. Overall, I loved living in Hawthorn as it brought me many great memories and it is where I found most of my current friends. My only complaint is having loud upstairs neighbors (for reference, I lived on the first floor) as the floors (and walls) can be quite thin sometimes (also depending on how loud an individual is).

I was randomly placed into Hawthorn after not getting my choice of an LLC. I was very happy with the location though due to the close proximity to many locations of major STEM lecture halls. It takes a small walk to go to the Tercero Dining Commons, the Silo, and my personal favorite, Latitude. The bathroom would be cleaned in the morning so it’s best to use it then because at night, the shower was usually dirty with hair or puddles. There was only one laundry room and there was no kitchen. The elevator was so slow and I lived on the fourth floor so this was very noticeable for me. I had a great view of the cows and it would only smell like cow in the hallways on certain days. There is plenty of bike parking in front of Hawthorn.

Room was very small, but otherwise just about ideal. Also missing the kitchen and some hangout areas other dorms have.

Tercero is a great location for STEM majors due to its proximity to the Sciences Lecture Hall and the engineering buildings. Hawthorn is a fairly new building with decent amenities. Each floor has its own common area and multiple bathrooms. Rooms are not as big compared to those in Segundo, which is made worse by the fact that most rooms are triples.

I loved living here, very close to many of the buildings and lectures halls I needed. The only downside is there was only one laundry room for the whole building, some of the other buildings had a laundry room on every floor. Other than that, bathrooms were well maintained by the amazing janitorial staff.
