Is Bixby Hall the best dorm at UC Davis?
Students rated Bixby Hall a 3.3/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
I really liked the big windows that let in a lot of natural light. The room is pretty spacious for a double (compared to a Tercero double). Room/bathroom/building is old (but not as old as Regan), yet clean. Laundry room and kitchenette on every floor was great. Bixby is right in front of the DC, and not too far from the market and Segundo Housing Center. Segundo is right next to the ARC and close to the MU. I personally think it's the best housing location.
I used to think this place was decent but after staying in different dorms at another university when I moved for grad school I started to realize that these dorms were not so great. Way too expensive for what you get... Mediocre dining commons experience and over $15k for 9 months is just ridiculous.
The big windows are a plus for me and the rooms were a good size. I also like the convenience of there being a laundry room on each floor, though only when the machines were working. Bixby is the most conveniently located in Segundo, right next to the Dining Commons and close to the gym. Downsides were that the kitchen is tiny and kind of gross and there aren't as many common spaces as in the newer dorms.
Not the best dorm that Davis has to offer, but not the worst either. I think it's the most conveniently located dorm in the Segundo area: right in front of the dining common, nearest to the ARC, close walk to the MU and to the Segundo Service Center/Market. The doubles are pretty spacious and there is enough room for a fridge/microwave, but the halls are very narrow (like all the high-rises in Segundo). The building is not as new as ATM (Alder, Thompson, Miller) but not as old as Regan (I can't compare it to the dorms in Tercero/Quarto because I don't know those areas as well) In addition to the large common area and a small study room on the first floor, there is a small kitchen and common area as well as laundry on each floor. The bathrooms are clean, but a bit on the older side and I was pretty unsatisfied by the shower areas (too small, water would splash from the adjacent stall, the handicap shower only had a curtain). Overall, it was a neutral experience.
Bixby was great!! It's right next to the dining hall and the ARC, and 10 minutes walk from most of the main buildings, Umall, and frat circle. The building is a little bit older but the rooms are still comfortable and spacious. The only thing I didn't really like were the bathrooms as they were old and kind of gross, and there were like 3 showers / stalls between 60+ people. There was also always a long line for laundry. Everything else was great though and I'd recommend Bixby for the location alone.
