Is Reid Hall the best dorm at UF?
Students rated Reid Hall a 2/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
Reid Hall is probably one of the older, if not the oldest dorm that has not been renovated yet. We constantly had mold problems and because there is no elevator, people living on the third or fourth floor will have to constantly go up and down stairs. There are only three washing machines and dryers for the entire building (roughly 40 people per floor) and the staff was rude, condescending, and overly pushing. The janitors often miss cleanings for the bathroom and the housing staff are either unhelpful or overbearing. There also barely enough bike racks for everyone. The only redeeming thing about Reid Hall is maybe the location but other dorms have this and are cleaner, nicer, and more recently renovated.
Reid is a very old dorm with community style bathrooms. The air conditioning in the room is a window unit and there is no air conditioning in the bathroom, making it super hot in the warmer months. The community kitchen is very small and it’s difficult for more than one person to use it as a time. The Reid hall experience greatly depends on who lives on your floor, so it’s really about luck. I did love the studio space for practicing my instrument and the common room is a fun place to hang out with people all throughout the dorm. The laundry room is on the first floor and there is not an elevator so carrying anything up and down the stairs can be annoying.
Reid Hall was decent for a traditional-style dorm, but obviously could be a lot better because it is a very old building. The best part of the dorm was that it offered a studio room downstairs (perfect for music/art majors) and there's a common area on the first floor which has a piano and is good for studying or socializing. When I lived in a Double room, the room was spacious for 2 people. However, the flooring is like an old classroom tile and it's very dirty. Some of my friends on my floor had mold issues. Bathrooms are communal, which can get gross when people refuse to clean up their messes! There is also NO elevator, so if you live on the top floors you will have a hassle moving in/out, dragging your laundry to the basement, and walking up the stairs everyday.
