Is Hume Hall the best dorm at UF?
Students rated Hume Hall a 3.4/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
Don't live in a dorm without a meal plan - very annoying. Bathrooms don't have good ventilation, room and windows are kind of small. My sink water stank all year. A bit luck of the draw but my dorm floor was anti-social bc a bunch of gamers wanted to dorm together. Also don't live in a dorm if you like quiet, I lived right next to the common room. Hume is also far from most things and buses are usually full. UF amazingly has some pretty s**t dorms compared to other Unis.
While the room is updated, the space is very small and impossible to move furniture around to make it your own. Unlike other dorms, the lounge is always empty and if you are looking to socialize it is very difficult to meet new people in the dorm. Location is absurdly far away from main classes and the rooms are ridiculously over-priced for what you actually receive. While you split one restroom between four people I would argue this is worse than a communal bathroom in a more traditional dorm because custodial cleaning is less frequent by comparison and it gets real ugly real fast.
Lived here my freshman year, really great to be among honors students. One upside and downside was that it was suite style and co-ed, so it was great to share the bathroom with only 3 people and be able to talk to guys and girls. It's close enough to turlington by bike or bus, and a walk if you feel active. Amenities are minimal, but good enough. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the classic movie college dorm feel that broward, rawlings, and the murphree area have. People don't congregate in the common area as much because theres no real need to with your own bathrooms, and honors kids are generally more prone to staying in and studying. I loved living here overall though.
I was fine with sharing a bathroom with 3 other girls--a lot more favorable than the communal bathrooms in other dorms. I personally liked the co-ed floors and I'd say it was pretty social. Almost everyone was in the honors college, so you already had things in common on Day 1. I lived in Hume West 4th floor and honestly living on the top floor was the best decision (there are elevators so going up and down wasn't an issue). It's a little far from a lot of classes, but the 118 bus takes you straight to the Hub in 5 minutes, and Reitz is a 5 minute walk. If I had to redo freshman year, I would definitely live here again.
Bathroom gets cleaned by staff once a week and you only have to share it with 3 other people, but there is close to no social atmosphere in the lounge and no foot traffic. Most people just stay in the rooms. Hume is in the farthest corner of campus away from classes so it is a very far walk.
