Is Beaty Towers the best dorm at UF?
Students rated Beaty Towers a 3.5/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
Ugh TERRIBLE dorm. You can hear a PIN drop in the common area. Expect to be up all night if your suitemates are inconsiderate. Location is extremely far from anything and the room is tiny and ugh just awful. Worst dorm ive ever lived in at uf. Our bathroom didn’t even have a lock so you would just need to pray nobody came in
Apartment-style. The bedrooms themselves are smaller, but you get the common room with one other bedroom. This means 4 people are sharing a smallish common area. Each room has it's own bathroom and kitchenette, although the kitchen area is really small and has little counter space. The kitchen has an oven, a stove, and a fridge/freezer with no ice maker. Anything else you'll have to buy yourself. The bathroom is 'cleaned' weekly, but the cleaning is pretty limited and basically amounts to just refilling the toilet paper. There are only 2 elevators in each building. When one of them goes down, you could be waiting quite a while, and running into filled or packed elevators. On the off chance both go down (which has happened), you may be stuck walking up/down up to 13 flights of stairs.
I would recommend this dorm for any first year on campus. You get a private bathroom, kitchen, and a pretty spacious bedroom to share with one other person (depends on how you setup beds). Location is a little further from the center of campus but its a 10 minute walk to get anywhere. Only downside id say is its not the most social dorm, so if you don't make friends outside of your living area in the beginning it could feel like an isolated environment.
Building and elevator are very old, but the apartment style is a huge plus compared to other UF dorms
Pros: Private bathroom and they give you free tp every week. Having a private kitchen and dining area is a major plus since I didn't get the meal plan and prefer to cook. Nice location especially being right above the POD which is a convenient type-store. Good windows and lighting. Cons: Lived on the 14th floor and with one elevator on average working, so getting to the bottom floor can take a while, especially during the class rush. Rooms are pretty small but not the worst, however you only have one desk to share with another person. There is however a "Double desk/table/Counter top" in the dining room that two people can use as a desk.
