Is Danielsen Hall the best dorm at BU?
Students rated Danielsen Hall a 2.9/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
People say the location is the worst part about this dorm but it was honestly a highlight compared to the rest of the dorm. This building needs some serious renovations. I shared a tiny, super old bathroom (just one sink, toilet and shower) with shower drain issues and flooding with 9 people and other people from the floor would come use it because ours was one of the better bathrooms on the floor. The rooms have tons of charm but are dusty and the windows are rusty and my roommates and I had to do a super deep clean before moving in. If BU put money into new bathrooms and tidying up the rooms, I think Danielsen would honestly be a hit because even though you're far from campus, you're super close to the actual city. Newbury is literally two minutes away. It would be the perfect place for people who want to get out of the BU bubble... if it just got a little TLC.
Danielsen is in a great area of Boston: close to Newbury St and Cambridge, but can be far from campus. The bus stops right outside, which helps. Room sizes are decent and the natural light is nice if you get a room with a bay window. The shared bathrooms are AWFUL. They are extremely outdated and the toilets are consistently clogged. Would recommend choosing a room with its own bathroom/shared with one other room.
Pros: -Close to Newbury Street and Mass Ave -Security guards are relaxed -Large common area and kitchen in basement -Relatively quiet Cons: -Leaks like a sponge (direct quote from resident director) My room on the top floor had a huge leak in the ceiling and it took over a month to fix -old and lots of fire hazards, (look up Danielson fire 2018) -bathrooms are dirty and disgusting unless you are lucky and get a room with a private bath - windows don’t open - elevators break down -this building needs to be demolished and rebuilt
Do not live here. I would go as far as to say Warren is better. The room I had was decent, bigger than a warren double but not by much. The bathrooms though....absolutely awful. Worse than Warren bathrooms. I'm convinced that they never got cleaned and I even complained to reslife but it didn't improve. The bathroom we had closest to us was so tiny that you had to sit sideways on the toilet. The "shower" was an old rusted, elevated bathtub with paint peeling and a crappy excuse of a shower head. The basement had ants and rats which is kind of expected in Boston but I never experienced this in my brownstone. The location is close to Newbury st, which is only a plus if you can afford anything there (not me!). Overall -1000/10 do not live here.
Danielsen was a great place to live as a sophomore barring the distance from campus. The closest T stop is Hynes and when the bus isn’t running, getting to campus is a hassle.
