Is Sullivan Residence Hall the best dorm at UW Madison?

Students rated Sullivan Residence Hall a 3.2/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.

living at sullivan was somewhat boring- the dorm was not a very social dorm and the location was not in the best place on campus. The proximity to the dining hall and some lake shore classes was nice, but the dorm was not near anything else useful.

My experience with Sullivan was very… lackluster. It’s definitely not the worst dorm, but it’s not the best either. It’s simply average. Your experience with this dorm largely depends on how your floor mates are. It's on the quieter side though, which is good for studying, not so great for socializing and making friends. The other comment covered the bases pretty well, so I'll talk about other stuff. The showers have lukewarm/warm water and you may find yourself rushing to get the one stall with proper heated water (this can be tiring in the freezing winter months). The rooms are quite small, in comparison to other dorms. The cinderblock walls are depressing, which won’t matter much if you’re never in your room. There is no AC, so be sure to bring a table fan for when it’s humid and sticky (from Aug-Oct and then March-May). The kitchen is small but decent, but it was always full and I wish we had more than one kitchen for a dorm with hundreds of students. The elevator is painfully slow. I wish I stayed in another more-social dorm my freshman year.

Mixed coed floors with double rooms and one single room per floor. Decently sized rooms with carpeting and a row of windows. Most people lofted both beds to allow room for a futon under one bed and a TV and other storage under the other. Communal bathrooms on each floor (4 bathroom stalls and 3 shower stalls in the women’s bathroom). Large den on each floor, though overflow students lived in it for the fall semester. Laundry, kitchen, communal area, and private bathroom in the basement. Package delivery at the Holt Center just adjacent to Sullivan. Right across from Dejope, so easy access to Four Lakes Market and a computer lab. Near to the Natatorium, recreational fields, and lakeshore path. Also a short walk to Camp Randall. Almost always quiet enough to study and sleep well but people can be very social on the floors, though it always depends on the group. Right off of the 80 bus route that circles campus. Walking time to class was typically 10-15 minutes.
