Is Smith Residence Hall the best dorm at UW Madison?
Students rated Smith Residence Hall a 4.5/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
The rooms were spacious than most dorms. There were multiple bathrooms shared among pods of 3 rooms. The location is more south but not too far from classes or downtown.
This dorm is awesome. Great study areas. The only downside is the location. Pretty far from classes and from the dining hall. Close to the Nick though, which is nice.
Got a single room because of medical accommodations. The room itself is great and it's pretty spacious for a single with good closets, but my neighbors are extremely loud and the walls are literally paper thin. Kinda screws up the point of having accommodations for a single room in the first place. Plus Smith is pretty antisocial and the few people I have met were not great. Also it's a super far walk to get anywhere because it's on the very edge of Southeast. I'd say one of the biggest pros is the very large and spacious elevators, and there's 3 of them. Great for move-in and move-out.
Smith was a great dorm. Many people think that it isn't social because it is so far away but from my experience, it's very social. You just have to make an effort in the first week to make friends. The worst part about it is that it is a little farther from everything. It isn't bad unless you have to go all the way to lakeshore, then I'd recommend taking the bus. Rooms are super nice. Adjustable AC, carpeting, super high ceilings, walk in closets and you only share a bathroom with your cluster so this past year I shared a bathroom with 6 girls which wasn't bad. It is a bit expensive but I would definitely recommend a triple to cut costs. I loved living in a triple. Also, Newell's deli (which might be different now idk) is in the same dorm which can be super convenient. Overall, I loved Smith.
Smith was a great dorm. Even though people don't think it is, it is pretty social. You just have to get to know the people on your floor. A lot of people complain about the location which is a little bit farther but honestly, it wasn't that big of a problem. There was controllable AC, high ceilings, walk in closets and you only have to share a bathroom with your cluster. So I shared a bathroom with 5 other girls. It is a bit pricey but if you're worried about costs, I would recommend a triple. It was actually a lot of fun plus, triples get 2 mini fridges. Not to mention the fact that we had Newell's Deli (which might be something else now idk) in the dorm building. This was super nice. Overall, Smith was a great dorm.
