Is Sellery Residence Hall the best dorm at UW Madison?

Students rated Sellery Residence Hall a 3.8/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.

Sellery is currently one of the ugliest/oldest dorms on campus. I wish I had lived in Chadborne or a dorm like Witte that has the upgraded rooms.

If you can’t get into witte, go here. university reps will try to tell you every form is “social” but it’s not the truth. if you want a fun college experience, meeting a lot of people, sellery or witte are where to be.

My freshman year living in Sellery was not the best nor was it the worst since I live in the unrenovated floors. My bad experiences so far was the numerous amount of fire alarms going off with the most notable ones being the ones at midnight and the ones that happen during construction. Bathrooms are fairly clean, but don’t expect it to be clean after a Friday night. There is no way to control the heater so either you keep it blasting in your room or you open up a window that will cool down your room really fast. Otherwise, Sellery is a good form to start out in. The first week of moving in was really amazing since everyone was very welcoming and friendly to one another especially the neighbors on my floor. Sellery is right next to the Amazon hub locker so it’s very convenient if you often order things from Amazon. Sellery is also right in front of a dining hall called Gordons and a gym called the Nicholas Recreation Center. Lastly, Sellery is a great location to wake up for classes since most classes are located near Sellery.

I lived here during the sellery's big construction year. nothing like the blaring sound of metal banging to wake up in the morning. not to mention the multiple 3am fire drills we had. since i lived here before the renovations, it wasn't really aesthetic. wasn't particularly dirty, but everything was definitely worn down and gloomy. the best part of living here would be the community. there's a bunch of dorms on each floor, which is a super easy way to make friends. also loved how close it was the state st and classes. the bathrooms were okay, but the showers were unpredictable (sometimes hot, sometimes cold, sometimes low pressure, sometime high pressure, etc). solid 3/5

Living in Sellery was pretty great. I got to meet some great people on my floor, and have been friends with many throughout my 4 years. Obviously the amenities aren’t as nice as some of the other dorms, but this is the place to be. You might have to deal with a 2am fire drill but it’s worth it if you want a social life
