Is Slichter Residence Hall the best dorm at UW Madison?

Students rated Slichter Residence Hall a 2.8/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.

I wanted to be in southeast but got slichter so i wasn’t too happy. that being said, i know people who wanted to be on the lakeshore side of campus and loved living in slichter. If you want a quieter environment and don’t want to go out a ton this is an adequate option. Slichter isn’t as far as some of the other lakeshore dorms which is a plus. Now for my list of cons. There’s no air conditioning which is brutal in the fall and spring. It’s next to the WORST dining hall, Carson’s, on campus which you may think won’t matter until you very quickly get sick of eating the same sub par meals. Since slichter is at the bottom of a hill you’re going to have to walk uphill to almost everything. The elevator is a lift and gets stuck at some point every year and it’s very annoying to use and people get in elevator wars. Overall i do not recommend this dorm but it is not the worst dorm on campus

Really pretty location, next to the boathouse and gardens. Built-in dressers. No AC and weirdly loud/uncontrollable heat. Mostly freshmen & all doubles.

Slichter has both pros and cons. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience there! The rooms are on the larger side, and the building is very well lit. However, it's quite old so there is no air conditioning and the elevator is basically unusable (not that it's really necessary outside of move-in day). The building has four floors with two wings each, one for girls and one for guys connected by a lounge. Everyone that lives there is a freshman. This made it pretty easy to make friends! I'd say there's a good mix of people that do and do not like to drink. Location-wise, it's a quick run from Carson's dining hall for a quick snack, and 5 minutes away from Dejope which has better food. It sits at the edge of the Lakeshore dorms, on the side closer to Liz Waters which in my opinion makes it more convenient. Convenience to class depends on what you take-- can range from a 5 to 15 min walk. I never really minded walking to classes because the walk is beautiful from Slichter. But like all Lakeshore dorms, to get to Langdon for parties, State street for food, and buildings like Memorial Union & College Library you'd probably be better off taking the bus.
