Is Cardinal Gardens the best dorm at USC?
Students rated Cardinal Gardens a 4.1/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
There's effectively no AC or heating because the AC was in the living room and it basically only cooled the living room. One of the two heaters was broken too (the maintenance guys couldn't fix it) so during the winter it was quite chilly. Other than that car gar is really pretty, a good place to study and hang out. I had a walk in closet. But it is a pain walking all the way to the laundry rooms
Great option for upperclassmen. Right next to the gym, Village, but also a bit of a walk from the south side of campus (Marshall, Chipotle, Coliseum)
The living room has air conditioning, but it doesn't go over to the rooms so it can get hot at night. We would sleep with the window open sometimes and used our fans when it was really hot. I loved having keys so I didn't have to scan my finger to get in, and I rarely ever saw my RA so it felt very independent. The balcony was nice and some of my friends actually lived in the apartments across from me so we could see each other across the way. The outdoor furniture was great during the day and night for studying or relaxing. There was a fire place and that was so cool! I loved the proximity to the village as well. CarGar was so chill and nice, and it had all of the amenities of the village as well. No elevators so moving in/out can be a little hard unless you live on the first floor but those apartments have a chance of being broken into!!
Was a spacious dorm! A tiny walk from campus and starting to show it's age, but it is worth the balcony and the kitchen space. Only gripe is mice, but buy a mouse trap or 2 and you should have no problems.
I loved living at CarGar. I wouldn’t recommend it to freshmen as it’d be harder to make friends than in a dorm, but it’s perfect for upperclassmen. Pros: large windows, rooms didn't feel cramped, double sink, lots of storage place, 5-10 walk to almost all buildings, had basketball court, pool table and outdoor fire place Cons: kitchen can get cramped if more than two people are trying to cook, ground floor apartments may have insect problems, air-conditioning was strongest in the living room so the back room was always warmer, you have to carry your laundry to an outdoor building to wash it (machines regularly broken or taken but there are several laundry buildings available)
