University Gateway Reviews
University of Southern California
Reviews Summary
University Gateway is a dorm located conveniently close to campus, offering students easy access to school and nearby amenities like CVS and restaurants. The building provides a mix of positive and negative experiences for residents. The rooms are spacious, with some having great natural light, while others lack adequate lighting and require residents to bring their own lamps. The dorm features a range of facilities including a 24/7 gym, study rooms, and a rooftop terrace with a skyline view. However, issues like inconsistent and weak WiFi, frequent false fire alarms - even in the early hours of the morning during exams, and occasional safety concerns due to the presence of homeless individuals in the vicinity, detract from the overall living experience. The furniture provided is described as mediocre, with some residents noting the need for upgrades. Despite its proximity to campus and various amenities, many students express frustration with ongoing maintenance issues, unreliable internet connectivity, and the disruptive nature of the fire alarms. Ultimately, University Gateway seems to be a decent option for students seeking convenience and a range of amenities, but improvements in maintenance, safety measures, and overall living conditions are areas that could enhance the dorm's appeal.

The only thing good about gateway is that it’s right next to campus. The building sucks, management is trash complaining that I waste their time when they lose my package, and management keeps charging random fees. Over the summer they demanded me to move my roommates stuff and made me liable for any damage, when I tried to refuse they complained that I’m a waste of their time, when I’m paying 2400 a month just for a private room but management act like I owe them money. Last year in the same month homeless took shit in the elevator, so many false fire alarms at midnight (2 in the same day 3 days consecutively in the same week), WiFi stops working when the slightest rain drops. Mold randomly grows in bathroom, sink clogged and gotta admit ...
It's a nice apartment, don't get me wrong. It has two bathrooms with the two bedrooms, and it has a microwave, stove, and oven. I think everything else about this apartment is a complete joke. Mold constantly grows in one of the bathrooms. Once we left our apartment, and one of the toilets just started overflowing for no reason. In the first semester, there has been nearly 10 false fire alarms ranging from 3:00 a.m. to work hours. I reported a cracked door hinge that was already here at the beginning of our move-in, and they still haven't fixed it. It's been several months. This month, hot water stopped working the entire day. There have been multiple instances of the water turning yellow. I don't even want to talk about the "amenities," or...
pretty spacious and not too bad especially if you are sharing with some roommates. I have lots of room
Living at Gateway has its goods and bads. Location is pretty good and is near campus (around a 5 minute walk) which is pretty good and is above places like CVS, Blaze Pizza, Yogurtland, and others. Gateway has a 24/7 gym, Peleton rooms, free printing, study rooms, and a lounge on the first floor. If you sign the contract through USC Housing, maintenance is usually quick to respond. It can get a bit unsafe during the evening since there are sometimes homeless people near Chase and the Shrine. It's hard to get natural light and the room doesn't have any lights so make sure to bring a lamp. Room space is pretty good compared to other rooms and each room has its own restroom. The apartment comes with a kitchen (stove, microwave, etc) and a livi...
Gateway is decent but its biggest downside is the inconsistent/weak wifi. I tried to buy concert tickets this morning and because Gateway's wifi is so bad, TicketMaster and LiveNation (as well as other ticketing sites) detect that something is wrong and don't let you into the website (an error shows up). This doesn't happen anywhere else, only at Gateway, and it's the same case on all my roommates' devices. It gets so frustrating living at Gateway, don't recommend if you care about high speed internet.
Living at Gateway has been okay, there have been ups and downs for sure. It has a great location right across campus and near the village. However, walking around the Chase and Shrine area can feel quite unsafe. The rooms are quite nice, some apartment living rooms are bigger than others, but still pretty big. I know many rooms have great natural light, but I got stuck in a corner room with very little natural light and there are little to no ceiling lights, so bring your own lamps. The gym is super nice and open 24/7 and the package room is very safe. WiFi is spotty when it rains. But the worst thing about this building is the fire alarms. Sometimes they go off in the middle of the night (3-5am) and at a certain point, people stopped leavi...
A lot of homeless people around so be careful. there's a pool but it's not that good. don't fall for it. rooms are alright. bring lamps bc there are no lights basically.
This place will do. But, other than that this place is bad bruh. No lights so you have to bring your own lamps, the couches, and desks they provide are not it they are basically musty and broken. Fire alarm goes off super loud every now and then.
The location is really nice because it's close to campus and right next to the village. It's also right in front of the metro station so it can be easy to access. It's at a good location from USC, but it can be not safe at night depending on what entrance you use to get into Gateway. There's a security guard at the main entrance but they don't really do anything. The rooms are pretty nice and the bathroom is big too. The furniture isn't really nice and lighting is pretty bad so you'll need your own lamps.
Close events for students. Nice skyline view from roof. Although, fire alarms do go off randomly sometimes.
