Is Wheeler Hall the best dorm at UMass Amherst?

Students rated Wheeler Hall a 2.6/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.

Wheeler is a decent building if your top-most priority is location on campus, however, I wish I knew more before I moved in. There is no elevator so be prepared for plenty of stairs (makes for an amazing move-in day experience) and the building is definitely showing signs of age. There were many service issues like leaks, broken heaters, plumbing difficulties, insect infestations, and the ceiling lighting fixture was improperly installed and fell out of the ceiling and hit me in the head (I may still be slightly salty). There are very few amenities as well, laundry has always been difficult because there are only 4 washers and 3 dryers in the laundry room for the entire building, the kitchen is frequently locked, and the common spaces are frequently unavailable. If these things don't bother you that is okay but I would also warn you that if you prioritize private space this might be a concern as the layouts on the ResLife are incorrect, and some floors (especially on the 4 floor) have wildly incorrect room sizes and there are some rooms that are drastically smaller than others but you won't know which ones until you walk in the dorm.

This was my freshmen year dorm and luckily I only needed to climb one flight of stairs to my dorm room. Otherwise if you are placed any floor from 2-4, it is pretty annoying to climb up the stairs everyday. There are about two water filling stations for the entire dorm, but they work well. the gender neutral single stall bathroom is usually really clean and more modern than the shared stalls. location is extremely close to franklin dining commons, literally right across the street which is a plus. rooms are pretty big and i was forced into a triple but still had a lot of space even then.
