New Hall West
based on 7 reviews
"This is by far the best dorm on campus. The rooms are spacious, you have air conditioning, and each room as it's own bathroom. The only real downsides are that you are kinda far from most everything except one dining hall and it is not a very social dorm. For anyone staying on campus your second or higher year, I would recommend this, but not for freshman, since you won't have many chances to meet anyone in the dorm unless you go out of your way to." - 4 years ago

"Pretty old dorm with no AC, and extreme heat in the winter. It's co-ed by floors, but it was previously an all male dorm so you'll find urinals in every bathroom. The common space is very lacking and the kitchen is also not great. Never found myself wanting to cook there. Lots of international students there as well, but since I wasn't part of that LLC - I found that most of them kept to themselves and it was harder to socialize.
Location is pretty good though, right in front of hokie grill made it super convenient and its probably the closest dorm you can get to the drillfield - so probably the quickest route to classes on the other side." - 4 years agoWe collected 3 dorm reviews for Newman Hall

Payne Hall

"I lived on the 4th floor which is different from the other 3 floors. The 4th floor is co-ed traditional style rooms versus the suite style of the other floors. The bridge is really cool and provides several large gathering spaces and central location but requires the awkwardly wide stairs to get to Owen's Dining Hall. 4th floor is not very nice. The bathrooms are old and small, rooms are cramped and dont have functioning windows in most rooms. It does have a/c, something you wont get in most dorms." - 4 years ago

New Residence Hall East

"New Residence Hall East is a nice building. It’s pretty new as far as dorms go and the rooms are a pretty good size. However, I found that suite style makes it way harder to meet new people and make friends. In addition, none of the lounges have TV’s to congregate around. The location is pretty central. If it’s important to you to have more privacy, nicer finishes, and air conditioning, this dorm is a good choice. If you’re looking to make lots of new friends, I would not recommend this dorm." - 4 years ago

Main Campbell Hall

"Bathroom was pretty recently renovated, it was nice. I didn't find the kitchen for months, and it was gross from people using it and not cleaning up after. Location was great. Right on the Drillfield, center of the entire campus, nothing was far. Other dorms may have been closer to specific places, like one of the dining halls, or some of the classrooms, but we were fairly equidistant from them all. And I loved being right on the Drillfield, able to go out and play Frisbee or football at the drop of a hat." - 4 years ago

East Ambler Johnston

"The best thing about East AJ was the community. The Honors Residential College lives in the dorm, and it is a conglomeration of all ages of students (freshmen-grad students) with many great bonding opportunities. Everyone is friendly. The rooms itself a re a bit small and the a/c system is a little confusing at first. Half of the hall is communal bathrooms and the other half has private baths. There is a communal kitchen and rec rooms connecting to west aj, and don’t forget about the in-house movie theater and gym. Very close to D2, West End, Cassell, and Lane, although fairly distant from academic side." - 4 years ago

"I liked having an all female dorm! The bathrooms were cleaned often and each one did have a shower room with locking door if curtains made you nervous. Ratio of bathrooms to residents was great and the rooms were all relatively spacious for Virginia Tech and had a sink. As far as location my dorm had a perfect view of Burrus and was located conveniently in the middle of campus. There was only one kitchen for all floors to share so I would recommend bringing a mini fridge/microwave." - 4 years ago

"Two volleyball courts right outside of the dorm! Was only hot without AC for roughly the first two weeks of school, which wasn’t an issue. Great location for access to the Library, Drillfield, Owens Food Court, and Hokie Grill dining halls. Closest dorm to get downtown (roughly a 3 minute walk). Great kitchen in the dorm and 3 different hang-out/study lounges on top of the kitchen! Absolutely loved it!" - 4 years ago

Harper Hall
based on 1 review
"Harper is a 4-floor suite style dorm with the Mozaiko Living Learning Program on the 3rd and 4th floors and the Cranwell International Center on the 1st floor. Each suite comes with a bathroom to be shared among the suitemates (4-6 people, with 2-3 doubles in each suite) and a common room. The bathrooms are not cleaned by housing, however they come with 2 toilets, 2 sinks, and 2 showers each. The common rooms come with a low table, an upholstered couch and chair, and a wooden rocking chair. There are modern kitchens on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors attached to the big lounge. The majority of the students who live in Harper are a part of Mozaiko, however non LLP members are usually international students, athletes, and upperclassmen. Harper is known to be a quiet residence hall with little social interaction, though there are many cultural events and regular activities held throughout the year. The building is notably further away than other residence halls from both dining halls and the academic side of campus, but West End is right next door and D2 isn't even a 2 minute walk away. If you're looking for a quiet, air conditioned dorm and don't mind a little extra walking to get where you're going or paying a bit more for the luxury, then Harper is the dorm for you." - 4 years ago

"There’s three triple non- suite rooms in PY and I somehow ended up in one (originally told I was going to be in temp housing but later they emailed me saying I was gonna be in the triple) it was amazing- between the three of us we had our own bathroom that had a bathtub and our room was massive- put our beds Against the wall and had the center for seating and tv- only downside was it was a little harder to socialize cuz everyone kinda stayed within their suite" - 4 years ago
