Payne Hall Reviews
Virginia Tech
Reviews Summary
Payne Hall offers a unique college dorm experience with its prime location and a variety of living arrangements. Situated in the heart of the campus, it provides easy access to gyms, food outlets, and other dormitories, making it a top choice for socially active students. The dorm features both suite-style and co-ed traditional rooms, with the fourth floor dedicated to the latter. Suites provide a more private living space, including a shared bathroom for every six residents, which many find preferable compared to communal floors. The building, while generally in good condition, suffers from a few maintenance issues like malfunctioning air conditioning and occasional leaks. Despite these drawbacks, the lounges on the second and third floors are popular spots for socializing, watching movies, and playing games. Payne Hall also includes convenient study areas, and Owen’s Dining Hall is accessible, though necessitating a climb up wide stairs. Overall, Payne Hall is praised for its larger room sizes and bustling community atmosphere.

I lived on fourth floor with a childhood friend. We had a great time. When we brought guest over we would bring them to the 3rd or 2nd floor lounge and watch movies, play games, or play ping pong. There's also nice study areas throughout the building. Location is literally one of the best reasons to go to this dorm. It's in the middle of all the other dorms so if you like having friends come over there's no complaints getting to Payne.

The suites are way nicer than just a room, the extra barrier before the outside world, and sharing a bathroom with 6 people is better than the whole floor. The location is perfect between the gyms, food places, and classes.

I lived on the 4th floor which is different from the other 3 floors. The 4th floor is co-ed traditional style rooms versus the suite style of the other floors. The bridge is really cool and provides several large gathering spaces and central location but requires the awkwardly wide stairs to get to Owen's Dining Hall. 4th floor is not very nice. The bathrooms are old and small, rooms are cramped and dont have functioning windows in most rooms. It does have a/c, something you wont get in most dorms.

It's right next to Owens. I was in a suite so we had to clean our own bathroom but it wasn't much of a hassle, the shared spaces were also pretty convenient. The building itself was in good shape. It did get hot during the winter months but you can always crack open a window since it's cold outside.
