Virginia Tech Sophomore Dorms Ranked

Ranking the best sophomore dorms at Virginia Tech, according to students.

  • Number 5

    Payne Hall

    based on 5 reviews

"I lived on the 4th floor which is different from the other 3 floors. The 4th floor is co-ed traditional style rooms versus the suite style of the other floors. The bridge is really cool and provides several large gathering spaces and central location but requires the awkwardly wide stairs to get to Owen's Dining Hall. 4th floor is not very nice. The bathrooms are old and small, rooms are cramped and dont have functioning windows in most rooms. It does have a/c, something you wont get in most dorms." - 4 years ago

    New Hall West

    based on 7 reviews

"This is by far the best dorm on campus. The rooms are spacious, you have air conditioning, and each room as it's own bathroom. The only real downsides are that you are kinda far from most everything except one dining hall and it is not a very social dorm. For anyone staying on campus your second or higher year, I would recommend this, but not for freshman, since you won't have many chances to meet anyone in the dorm unless you go out of your way to." - 4 years ago

    Hillcrest Hall

    based on 1 review

"The room is a little small, having a suite-style bathroom is nice, but it is difficult to maintain. The lack of AC is also not ideal, but the heating is good and the hall is really nice. Plus, the hall has a central location on the campus, which makes it a nice location. The hill is difficult to walk up, but otherwise, it is a good hall." - 2 years ago

  • Number 2

    East Ambler Johnston

    based on 2 reviews

"The best thing about East AJ was the community. The Honors Residential College lives in the dorm, and it is a conglomeration of all ages of students (freshmen-grad students) with many great bonding opportunities. Everyone is friendly. The rooms itself a re a bit small and the a/c system is a little confusing at first. Half of the hall is communal bathrooms and the other half has private baths. There is a communal kitchen and rec rooms connecting to west aj, and don’t forget about the in-house movie theater and gym. Very close to D2, West End, Cassell, and Lane, although fairly distant from academic side." - 4 years ago

    Pritchard Hall

    based on 5 reviews

"i lived in Pritchard dorm and was appalled, the cleanliness of the bathroom and 4th floor was atrocious, i have had to go to other floors to use the rest room, we have food in the elevators and even at one point had human feces, whatever reason there is for not having cleaning crews active on weekends isn't a good enough reason, there would be puke in the showers all weekend after football games and fungus is regularly found on all the shower curtains, the lack of cameras is another issue leading to these problems as well as the excess of fake fire drills. i've sent emails in asking about the cameras and was told they have been paid for since September and they still haven't been put in, these issues are the most simple things to fix." - 1 year ago
