Olmeca Reviews

San Diego State University

Reviews Summary

Olmeca dorm offers a mixed experience according to student reviews. Situated in a prime location on campus, it boasts amenities like a basketball court and pool nearby. However, the rooms, intended for two, are often cramped with three students, leading to a lack of personal space. The shared bathrooms are a common point of contention, with cleanliness varying depending on the residents of each floor. The lack of study rooms on the first floor is a missed opportunity for students seeking a quiet place to work. While the community within the dorm can make the experience enjoyable, issues like mold growth, unclean common areas, and small, outdated kitchen facilities detract from the overall appeal. Despite being freshly renovated, some students feel that Olmeca's aesthetics resemble a hospital rather than a welcoming dormitory. Additionally, the limited enforcement of quiet hours and poorly maintained laundry facilities can be frustrating for residents. Overall, Olmeca presents a convenient location and some recreational perks, but students may need to adapt to its limitations and rely on the camaraderie of their fellow residents to make the most of their stay.

The dorm rooms can get cramped if you have a triple which most have. The AC stopped working towards the beginning of the year. The guys bathroom never got super dirty because we had a lot fewer guys on our floor than girls. They could be cleaned more frequently though. Sometimes walking all the way across the floor to use it can be annoying. The location is the best on campus. Overall I didn't mind the experience because my floor had a strong community which made it a lot of fun. The dorms aren't too bad, kinda something you just get used to and deal with.

Location is good but bathrooms are so gross and nobody cleans out their hair in the showers and sinks! My room has a ton of mold growing on our walls and it’s disgusting, we have tried everything to clean it but nothing works and keeps growing back. so awful

The bathrooms get pretty gross. First floor is only girls which is also kinda annoying. Laundry room is terrible, half of the dryers don’t even work and they don’t label them so it wastes money. Kitchen is super tiny. Also no elevator. Rooms are made for double but they’re stuffed with three people which makes it annoying.

Honestly not as bad as I thought it would be, we don’t have elevators so it sucks having to do laundry but since I live on the first floor I don’t really have to worry about that. We don’t have a lot of the cool amenities that other dorms have, and our common areas are pretty small. Overall it’s okay, pretty average.

Basketball court and pool close by which is nice. Kinda close to classes and food. Bathrooms are shit, rooms are double sized with three beds. Common areas have old and dirty furniture.

The experience is alright, it’s pretty standard for what you’d expect from a first year dorm. The quiet hours aren’t really enforced and the restrooms are always sorta icky. Unfortunately the laundry room is stupidly small and most dryers don’t work properly. The lobby area and courtyard are nice tho.

I really like the amenities we have with the basketball court and the pool, and how we’re close to the market and a lot of other places. However, I wish the first floor had study rooms considering most other dorms do.

My experience here has not been too bad. The environment is extremely friendly and it is easy to talk to others. Although, the bathroom is messy and the hallways look like a hospital.

I overall like my dorm but I wish it had more common spaces and a nicer kitchen. I also wish the showers had stall doors instead of curtains but it is renovated which is nice.
