San Diego State University Freshman Dorms Ranked

Ranking the best sophomore dorms at San Diego State University, according to students.

  • Number 5

    Tenochca

    based on 6 reviews

    Tenochca at SDSU

"Tenochca is a mid dorm here at SDSU. It's not as bad as Chappy or even maya/olmeca, but not South Campus. As most of the sdsu dorms aren't equipped to fit 3 people, tenochca has the smallest rooms for sure. I'm 4'11 and my head hits the ceiling in my top bunk. So if you're not in a bunk bed triple the experience is definitely better. I am giving it a 3.3 because communal living is never going to be the best. The halls are small so you really get to know your floor, I have had a great experience with that. The bathrooms get cleaned a lot during the week but you learn even adults really just can't clean up after themselves and this is the greatest negative factor for me. I don't think the location in walking terms is bad at all from here!" - 1 year ago

    Huāxyacac

    based on 6 reviews

    Huāxyacac at SDSU

"I lived here the first year it was open for freshmen, so the building was brand new and very nice as far as bathroom amenities and proximity to dorms, community centers and study rooms, rooftop access, RA's that were involved with the residents. The dorm also feels super secure with the check in measures; the room sizes were as to be expected but did feel small even for two people. The main downside of living in Huax is the proximity to campus and all the eating places especially. It was a far walk to the main eateries, but they did have food trucks come to help with this problem. " - 1 year ago

    Chapultepec

    based on 9 reviews

    Chapultepec at SDSU

"Pros: There is a convenient market right outside the dorm and a bcb next door. There are also food trucks that come to the dorm which helps since the dorm is far from campus and other places to eat.
Cons: The rooms are very small, the building is far from campus, and the building is old. The air conditioning only works if it is above a certain temperature and the windows only open an inch because of the safety bolt.
To live in Chapultepec you should expect to have little space for storage. You have to provide your own dresser drawers 2/3 of the time because there is only one dresser in the room and the other two people get a “closet” which is very small and only has a bar to hang clothes. The bathrooms get cleaned everyday except weekends so by the end of the weekend they are dirty. There are three showers next to each other each with a curtain, and four bathroom stalls on the other side of the sinks. There is also a trash chute in one hallway, but no easy way to throw away recycling. " - 1 year ago

    South Campus Plaza

    based on 10 reviews

    South Campus Plaza at SDSU

"best dorm actually. depending on the building, ur either above trader joes or a bunch of restaurants. all rooms here have their own bathroom which is shared with roommates. (you do have to clean it yourself, but imo that's better than communal bathrooms.) room is surprisingly bigger than expected, definitely bigger than some other dorms on campus. building is fairly new and modern and it's a short walk to get to campus. also has two elevators that all students can use, as well as a trash chute for easy waste disposal. worst part would probably some people, as some don't quite know how to clean up after themselves in communal areas. Olmeca

    based on 14 reviews

    Olmeca at SDSU

"The dorm rooms can get cramped if you have a triple which most have. The AC stopped working towards the beginning of the year. The guys bathroom never got super dirty because we had a lot fewer guys on our floor than girls. They could be cleaned more frequently though. Sometimes walking all the way across the floor to use it can be annoying. The location is the best on campus. Overall I didn't mind the experience because my floor had a strong community which made it a lot of fun. The dorms aren't too bad, kinda something you just get used to and deal with. " - 1 year ago
