Maya Reviews
San Diego State University
Reviews Summary
Maya is a charming dorm that offers a welcoming and personalized environment for freshmen, with its small, three-story structure fostering a close-knit community feel. Residents appreciate the dorm's convenient location, close to major food venues, the Student Union, and local transportation, as well as its proximity to social hubs like the frats. The amenities in Maya are a highlight, featuring a pool, a spacious courtyard with fire pits, a beach volleyball court, and a mini-golf turf. Despite its many advantages, the dorm faces a few challenges, such as limited washing machines leading to inconvenient laundry access and air conditioning units that tend to malfunction. The rooms can feel cramped, especially when accommodating three people, a downside noted by several students. Nevertheless, the dorm is well-maintained with modern bathroom facilities and provides a great view of the pool and sunsets. Overall, Maya offers a friendly and engaging living experience, making it a recommended choice for incoming students.

I enjoyed living in Maya my freshman year. I really liked how it was not too many floors or people because it felt more personal and easy to connect with others. I wish there was more washing machines in the first floor wash room because I felt like they were all always in use whenever I would go to do laundry. Also, the air conditioning unit was basically useless the whole year and broke quite often but as long as you keep your window and/or door open it’s not too hard to air out the room. The TV in the common areas were super fun to use and helped us all on the floor connect and watch shows and games together. Also, being on this side of campus is super convenient because we are close to all the major food locations, trolley station and t...

Honestly love that the building is only 3 floors because it feels less like a hotel and more like a home. We are close to campus and all the food options! And we have a pool, big courtyard with fire pits, beach volleyball court, mini golf turf, and more. No complaints other than they shoved 3 people into a room for 2.

Extremely cramped but well kept and very clean. New amenities and great bathroom but three to a room is really incredibly bad.

Maya and Olmeca are practically the same, but in Maya you could get a great view of the pool and sunset. Great location and great vibes, and the learning communities are a good pro to living in Maya. The amenities are all amazing, but people do say that Maya is the worst dorm, but honestly it’s been really nice living here.
