Is Windsor Halls the best dorm at Purdue?

Windsor is an upper classmen dorm. However, as a transfer student being allocated to Windsor’s in the first semester (spring) was kinda overwhelming. The sense of community is definitely not as good as other dorms. However it is a great dorm to live in if you prefer a quieter place. The tunnels makes it a lot easier to go to the dining court. Windsor is also super close to campus’s center

I lived in Shealy hall on the third floor. This building was my favorite of all the Windsor building, mainly because of the study area on the first floor. The recreational space in the basement was top-notch, despite the kitchenette being a little cruddy. The tunnels to get around the basements are a little sketch, but not that bad. There are only laundry rooms in two of the basements (Duhme and Vawter i think), so hauling your hamper to another building was a bit of a hike. My absolute favorite thing about Windsor had to be the workout room in Duhme. The equipment was relatively nice, there were plenty of weights and resistance bands, and as long as you didn’t go between 6 and 10pm you could oftentimes have the room to yourself. Our room was a little narrow, but had a great little nook area that fit a 5ft futon perfectly. Almost all of the rooms in windsor have a different layout, so try to find a floorplan and choose your specific room. I’ve heard of people getting bugs in their rooms due to the age of the building, but my roommate and I only had one incident with a spider early on in the year. Our room also had a newer AC/heater, so that was pretty nice. The bathrooms on my floor were ok. There was one private bathroom with it’s own shower, toilet, and sink and mirror, and I would wait to shower if that one wasn’t free. The other showers just had curtains (no stall doors) and were right across from a bank of windows, so it got super chilly in the winter.

Pros: I loved living in Windsor. I had a triple suite which meant I had a private bathroom shared with two other women. It is a women’s only dorm and normally just for upper classmen. The underground tunnel system was great when I didn’t want to walk outside to go to the dining hall. The dorms were very well kept and the bathrooms were always clean. There is even a private workout room just for Windsor residents! Cons: The atmosphere was not great for underclassmen trying to make new friends. No one really talked to each other.

I lived in Wood for my first two years at Purdue. I loved the building; it had so much character to it, there were many places to study, and I liked the tunnels. I never had a problem getting a washer/drying on the weekend. The bathrooms were cleaned well, but my second year some of the girls were so messy and did not clean up after themselves. I thought Windsor was in a great location, kind of in the center of campus. It was close to several dinning courts and had its own. Close to the co rec and 3rd street (Starbucks, mini mart, also Chick-fil-A and jersey mikes id across the street). Since the layout of the building was not a cookie cut-out, some of the rooms were weird.. my room had a lot of curves and nooks and it was awkward and smaller, but I’ve seen a lot of better rooms throughout Windsor! I always felt safe and comfortable at Windsor. It is a quieter dorm which was perfect for me, but if you want to make friends with everyone on your floor, may not be the best dorm.
