Is Hawkins Hall the best dorm at Purdue?

Pros: If you happen to get one of the singles that is not a corner dorm, shared bathroom dorm, or dorm on the first floor, you have a huge desk. The floors are mostly quiet (not a lot of activity) since they are all singles on the east side. The west side is for doubles, more activity on this side. There are both coed floors and single gender floors. Views are good if you catch a dorm that isn't facing Yung. Otherwise you stare at a building all day. Cheap. Cons: There is no AC, even though you are paying for it. It is a joke. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise. Try to live on a lower floor if you can. I am on the first floor and my room has reached 80 degrees, and has stayed 77 degrees consistently during the fall semester. Bathrooms are subpar, the water heating system is also a joke. You are lucky if you catch the hot water in the morning around 7-8 am and sometimes in the evening. Do not take a shower past midnight. You cannot loft your bed. Your window does not open more than 6 inches, so you cannot stick a box fan in it to bring airflow into the room. Far from dining court, no use for dining membership unless you go to the union once a day. Best to get the 8 meal swipes. People screaming outside because of bars if you face the Yung side. Cockroaches, but that is every dorm.

i had a corner single meaning i had my own bathroom. room was nice, carpet was god awful. bathroom was fine but the toilet had no toilet seat and there was very little storage in the bathroom. location is ROUGH when it comes to making friends as an underclassman and using meal swipes… wiley is the closest dining court and it’s over 15 mins away. i moved out. only good thing was the room size

I lived in a suite with one roommate and a shared bathroom with two other suitemates. The room was decently sized, probably around the same size as a normal double in other dorms like Earhart or Shreve. The floor was carpeted, which I thought was better than the regular tile floor. There was an attached bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower that connected to another double. The connecting space is nice because it can be used as extra storage for shoes, bikes, skateboards, etc. The bathrooms are also cleaned once a week, and while it is convenient, it can get kind of annoying having someone come into your room in the morning/middle of the day if you're trying to sleep or get work done. Each floor has two study rooms, one on each wing, and a small lounge by the elevators. I used these semi-frequently to study late at night when I didn't want to wake up my roommate or walk all the way to a library.

The single with a communal bathroom is a good choice if you’re on a budget and don’t mind a small space. You’ll probably have to eat out most of the time because cooking is not possible. I never used the communal kitchen and don’t know if there even is one. The wifi was pretty good and I really liked having my own space even though it was a small room.

The Hawkins Single rooms were great in my opinion, and I ended up staying there two years. Pros: - Really close to academic part of campus, like, a 5-10 minute walk to get to any of my classes. - Underground tunnels allow you to walk all the way to Stewart, which is nice when it is cold or raining. - Close to restaurants like 5 Guys and all of the bars if that's your thing. - Close to the Union. It's a nice place to maybe get some snacks or food and study. - The single rooms have huge desks with a ton of workspace. Cons: - The bathrooms kinda suck, and some of the showerheads are actually painful to use. Wasn't a huge deal overall though. - It's like a mile walk to any of the dining courts, so it suck if you have a meal plan. The Union takes meal swipes sometimes though, so there's that at least. - An inordinate amount of 3 - 4 am fire alarms. It seems like about once a month for the past two years I lived at Hawkins, there would be a 3 am fire alarm. Pro or Con(depending on who you are): - Really chill dorm. It's a bit harder to socialize and meet your neighbors here, but at the same time there seems to be less obnoxious loud freshmen sorts of people. Everything is usually pretty quiet and chill.
