Is Meredith Hall the best dorm at Purdue?

If you prioritize comfort over budget, this is NOT the dorm for you. This is by far the one of the cheapest dorms but you get what you pay for. It has small, out of date rooms, and the infamous nickname of the “Dirty Dith”.. cockroaches have been spotted in basement more than once. The no A/C is killer in Aug/Sept but not an issue after that. The heating system is also pretty finicky so the room is sometimes uncomfortably warm in winter, some girls just opt to not use it. The bathrooms aren’t cute... theres sometimes broken or gross sinks, showers and toilets. However, the working ones have good water pressure and shelves for toiletries! Similarly, some machines don’t work but laundry is almost always available. Lots of lounges available for hanging out or study spaces. Culture wise, this is an all girls dorm with no learning communities, meaning it’s a pretty diverse group. The RAs are great, there’s fun activities and a strong community bonding over surviving the “Dirty Dith” together. Location is also AMAZING - two dining places inside, right next to Krach study center, the gym, dining halls and closer to classes than others. If you prioritize saving money, community and location like I did, I fully recommend Meredith! If however, you like clean, spacious, comfortable rooms and amenities, I suggest checking out somewhere else.

Meredith has good rooms for people who aren’t interested in having people over often. There’s not much space for anything except the beds, desks, a tv, and a futon. If you’re just interested in saving money, being close to classes/the gym, and dealing with the heat in the summer time then Meredith is the one!

Even though it’s one of the smallest rooms Purdue has to offer, the size adds some coziness to living. I would go to the gym often and it’s less than a block from door-to-door so it’s made it super simple. I never encountered bugs but I know some people in the hall did. I think it just depends on if you bring food in your room and leave it. All rooms are close to the nearest bathroom and the showers are small but have great water pressure and the curtains are cleaned/replaced everyday. Not all the sinks in the bathroom work, but the ones that do have great temperature control and water pressure as well. There’s no A/C but with big windows and not direct sunlight into the room it won’t make a huge difference.

Meredith is the best for your buck. If you typically use your room as a place to sleep and study, a room here will be just fine. Without A/C the hot months can be a struggle but the heat in the winter time is no joke. The bathrooms are better than many other dorms on campus.

I think meredith has a lot of character and the room size is actually pretty good! It has a lot of storage, and it has 3 big windows which is essential for maintaining the temperature without AC. The bathrooms are a little scary but not that bad.
