Rubin Hall

"I loved living in Rubin Hall freshman year! It has a great location and was only about a 5 min walk to the closest dining halls, and about a 5-7 min walk from all of my classes. I lived in a double and the room was super spacious. The lack of AC was really not a problem except for a handful of hot days in the beginning of the year, and even then a small fan was enough. The lounge is a great place to hang out or study, and the building is very charming. The community at Rubin is one of the best, and I felt at home quickly once moving in. The only cons I can think of are that sometimes the printer stops working and the elevators are slow. Overall Rubin is a fantastic first year hall!" See all 12 reviews

Founders Hall
Out of 12 Founders Hall reviews , 12 of them said they lived here as a freshmen
based on 12 reviews
"The building is great, it is only ten years old so the inside is very clean and updated. The rooms are very large, we had enough space for a 5x7 rug between the two beds, and the large windows let in tons of light. The bathroom is spacious but the corners do mold easily. A full size fridge and microwave are provided which helps compensate for the lack of a kitchen. The building is roughly an 8min walk from most NYU buildings so at times it can seem far. However there are other dorms, dining halls, campus gyms, restaurants, stores, and subway stops extremely close by. You will never feel isolated." See all 12 reviews

Brittany Hall

"Every single person who works at Brittany hall and for NYU in general is rude and incompetent at their job. When I initially called NYU for housing, I was hung up on three different times by the same telephone worker. I was also told that I wouldn't be able to move in until a week after I was originally told I could move in (resolved but extremely stressful and time consuming as I had to search for alternate expensive housing options). Upon arriving at Brittany, I was roomed with a male (as a female and having put my preference in as female) (again resolved but anxiety-inducing). The upstairs study room is closed permanently for the summer, leaving few spaces to go to relax. My now roommate had no idea I was moving in, and neither of us had any idea we were going to get one more roommate a week later. Staff members, even though there are multiple still at the desk and working, rudely and with an attitude will refuse to get your package after hours. I would recommend NYU dorms to no one; almost every experience I have had has been terrible, and it has only been three weeks." See all 13 reviews

Third North
Out of 15 Third North reviews , 15 of them said they lived here as a freshmen

"I was expecting my dorm life when I applied for 3N because it is one of the few dorms with kitchens. But unless you can guarantee a peaceful life in the dorm and a healthy relationship with your roommates, please do hesitate before you apply for this place, according to my true tragedy. First, little animals like cockroaches do exist inside the room. Second, elevators were always not in service and it took a million years for the ancient elevators to arrive at your floor and to the ground floor. Third, false alarms happened the most in this place and you will need to run out of the building and go to blocks away with only your pajamas and slippers--you're just lucky if you are not taking a shower. Lastly, dining hall is horrible if you are out of luck and in most times I am unlucky for getting burnt chicken breasts. However I did enjoy a lot from the activities held by Third North staffs or students, like free movies in the AMC across the street and handcrafts workshops. Also, there is a piano practice room and there are lots of study rooms that I spent most of time in, again, due to my tragic dorm life and terrible roommates. Activity space in the lower level was definitely my favorite space. Overall, 3 out of 5. If you are considering residential fee as one of the factors, 3N is not worth the price and definitely not the first choice. " See all 15 reviews

Lipton Hall
Out of 19 Lipton Hall reviews , 19 of them said they lived here as a freshmen
based on 19 reviews
"Lipton Hall is a great freshman dorm conveniently located near Washington Square Park and a 5-10min walk to most of the buildings (CAS, Stern, Kimmel, GCASL, Bobst library etc.) Another upside of living in Lipton is having a dining hall at your disposal. Most freshman dorms are traditional style ie without having kitchens and having a dining hall in your building is a great +
The rooms are spacious and if you're lucky you'll have a great view (I had the view of empire state, a living dream!!) I would say the cons of Lipton Hall are smaller bathrooms and closet space, when compared to other dorms like Brittany Hall. But once you adjust to it, it's really great living there. I know it took me some adjusting especially being an international student but I ended up calling Lipton my home :)" See all 19 reviews
