I lived in a loft in the east tower (11th/12th floors - 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, giant kitchen/living room/dining room and 2 floors). I dormed years ago when you couldn't choose roommates, so I got stuck living with 9 strangers (technically 8 strangers + 1 RA) and none of us got along, but the dorm itself was so cool and it was ginormous. It was also awesome to have a dining hall and grocery store in the building plus a bodega right outside the dorm open 24/7
Controversially, I actually really like living at third north. I live in a low cost doubles, meaning it's one of the cheaper NYU dorms and I'd much rather pay this price for a small room with a kitchen than pay more for a bigger room and no kitchen. The location is one of the farther ones from campus, but I'm in Tisch which is one of the closer buildings and after a few weeks the distance from other dorms isn't noticeable. The dining hall isn't great, but you just need to know what to order and find the sriracha and it'll be pretty good. There's also Palladium super close by which is one of my favorite dining halls. My bathroom is the only thing I've had a problem with because our ceiling paint was falling off, but the work orders go in pre...
I was expecting my dorm life when I applied for 3N because it is one of the few dorms with kitchens. But unless you can guarantee a peaceful life in the dorm and a healthy relationship with your roommates, please do hesitate before you apply for this place, according to my true tragedy. First, little animals like cockroaches do exist inside the room. Second, elevators were always not in service and it took a million years for the ancient elevators to arrive at your floor and to the ground floor. Third, false alarms happened the most in this place and you will need to run out of the building and go to blocks away with only your pajamas and slippers--you're just lucky if you are not taking a shower. Lastly, dining hall is horrible if you are ...
I lived at third north for the fall semester of my freshman year and it was definitely not worth the price at all.
I liked living in Third North! The building is old and not very special, but I spent most of my time in the lounge area. I was in low-cost housing and got placed in a bunk bedroom with bare space to walk between the bed and the desk. Third North is known for its rats and roaches so be careful. As an art student, the walk to the Barney building was only two blocks so it was very convenient for me. The FFIR, Carlos, is so nice and very welcoming. The dining was not the best but convenient at times. Breakfast was definitely the best meal. Security guards are mad strict and annoying but if you learn their names and talk with them for a bit you will definitely get on their good side. The lounge area is the best because you will meet a lot of fri...
The walk was honestly a pro for me, 15 minutes isn't that bad, and you end up knowing New York just a little bit better because you're not confined to Washington Square, might be a pain convincing your friends who live closer to the main campus to come visit sometimes bc they are not used to the walk. The dining hall isn't amazing, but isn't horrible, it's pretty convenient, and if you get tired of it, there are so many other options. C3 (the basement area) is probably the best part of it, nice place to study/hang out. You will spend some time here, especially if you have friends that also live in Third North. Third North has a LOT of people, so if you have a social floor/group of friends, you will probably meet a lot of cool people, which ...
Third North was a very comfortable dorm for my freshman year. I lived in a double room within a six person suite. I had a corner room with two windows and a great view. Security guards are so friendly, the building maintenance team is responsive, reliable and so friendly!
I liked living here a lot. The best part for sure was the basement common area because it was a great place to hang out with friends and also had private study rooms and a dance studio. I lived in a double with 1 roommate and 2 suitemates on the second floor and I felt like it was enough space for us. There are also study rooms on almost every floor which is good for when you want a quiet place to work. Some cons: the kitchens are pretty small if you're not on a loft floor (literally no counterspace) and the bathrooms are pretty ugly.
Unless you have a good roommate and/or a loft apartment your life will be miserable here. Rooms are shabby, poor space, lacks natural light. Kind of depressing to be honest. At least there's a dining hall.
It was my favorite place freshman year! I always look back on the fond memories, great apartment vibe so it feels more open and social. you want to have people over and are excited to meet others, i met some of my best friends here! distance from campus is definitely the 2nd furthest, but it’s cute and a good walk, keeps you healthy
