West Eggleston Hall Reviews
Virginia Tech
Reviews Summary
West Eggleston Hall, commonly referred to as WEGG, is a traditional freshman dorm known for its prime location on campus. Situated right by the drillfield and within a short walk to War Memorial Gym and various dining options, WEGG offers convenience that appeals to many students. Despite its advantageous location, the dorm experiences some drawbacks. The building is older and lacks air conditioning, though box fans typically suffice during the warmer months. The rooms, although a bit gloomy, are generally larger than those in other dorms, especially the ones near stairwells. WEGG features communal showers and bathrooms, which, despite being renovated in 2019, are often criticized for cleanliness issues. The common areas, particularly on all-boys floors, tend to be dirty, and the absence of an elevator can be challenging. Despite these challenges, residents often maintain that the social environment and bonding with dormmates make for a memorable freshman experience at West Eggleston Hall.

Location great. Classic freshmen dorm experience of hall dorms and communal showers. No AC, awful. Boys are gross and the bathrooms were vile. The kitchen was dirty, mainly because of the boys. Overall, the dorm gave me epilepsy.

I LOVE WEGG. The guy's floors were so gross. Guys are awful at cooking and proceed to set the dorm on fire, especially when I'm in the shower. Love the location so close to my favs Dunkin and Chick. The common area was so nasty. Beware of the laundry room on the guys' floor, you may see some guys in towels unexpectedly. The washer also caught on fire. Men don't know how to do laundry. Other than that I love WEGG.

This dorm is definitely the best in terms of location. You are right on the drillfield and it takes 5 minutes tops to get to any of your classes. War memorial gyms is also right next to it and the best dining hall (IMO) Owens is right next to it as well. Easy access to dunkin in the mornings if you want. No ac is definitely a bummer but a couple box fans on the window will work just fine. The dorm feels a little gloomy sometimes and not as lively as some of the other bigger dorms but you can definitely have a good time. As stated by others, rooms on the stairwell are almost double that of the ones in the main halls. Had some issues with the bathroom with water pressure and temperature but was fixed halfway in the year. Pro tip is to use the...

West Egg has one of the best locations on campus. It sits right in front of the drill field, neighbors War Memorial Gym, and is a short walk to any of the dining halls. The rooms are a bit old but are slightly bigger than the rooms in most other dorms. There is no A/C, but you only really need a box fan for August and September. The bathrooms were renovated in 2019, but they are communal so you definitely still need shower shoes. I recommend living on the first-floor and picking a room next to the stairs, as they are bigger than the others. The university-wide mail room is right next door.

I enjoyed it because I had good friends in the dorm. The rooms are bigger than a lot of rooms in other dorms. Try to get a room by the stair case as they're almost twice the size.

Didn’t have a kitchen until March of spring semester, common lounge on the first floor was always dirty, lived on an all-guys floor which was always dirty/loud/smelled like trash. No A/C and the heat in the winters was way too hot. Great location, though. Older dorm and did the job for freshman year
