A good place to make friends and settle into college. I liked how everything was close on campus. Highly recommend for any incoming freshman
It was super close to everything and I made a lot of my friends by just living there. The room itself was pretty small but manageable. The bathrooms (communal) were also alright, but sometimes got a bit dirty but were also cleaned pretty regularly, no major issues. Laundry sometimes was hard since everyone on the floor only had 4 washers and dryers to use.
I lived in the basement (1st floor) with a private bath, it was quiet and spacious unlike some of the things I’ve heard from upper floors, not bad as jester goes
Living here was very convenient as it is essentially in the center of campus and also relatively close to my freshmen year classes. It was also nice that there were two dining halls in the building, which made quick meals easy to access. The communal bathrooms were cleaned everyday, so they weren't that bad at all. The rooms are on the smaller side, but I had enough room for everything I needed.
The window and room were super tiny, but it was really nice to be so close to everything. Being on the second floor was nice since the dining hall was there and I never waited for elevators. It’s so expensive though
For freshmen it’s really nice just because the dining halls, main buildings (library, gym, etc.), and most freshmen classes are a couple minutes away. However, it looks prison-like, a bit loud at times, but I met a lot of people just because I lived at west. I stayed in a double occupancy with the communal bath. The communal wasn’t bad until the end of the year because the showers all got clogged and it started flooding.
The dorm gave me a great introduction to UT, bathroom would be cleaned twice a day so the communal was pretty great for me. People were friendly and helpful to adjust to college living.
Staying at the Jester West Residence Hall was overall a pleasant experience for my freshman year. The rooms were not the most spacious but were enjoyable. All of the furniture that came with the room was clean and durable. The shared suite bathrooms were really nice to have but I heard the community bathrooms were not bad for the most part. It was mostly quiet throughout the day and the only time it really got noisy was maybe some of the weekends. The only complaint about the noisiness I had was the slamming of doors. It could be heard from down the hall if a door was slammed. The location of Jester West was definitely one of the best perks of living there. There was a dining hall attached to the dorm building and the main walkway of the ca...
Lived here for 2 years - freshman and sophomore year. TLDR, loved it freshman year and would recommend to everyone, but definitely not as much fun after that. For freshmen, I think it's the quintessential UT/college experience to live here. You're in the middle of everything, close to PCL/Greg/most classes (sorry to my fellow engineering majors), and most of the time people are super friendly and you can make a lot of connections this way. It was kind of my own mistake living here as a sophomore and it wasn't as much fun being surrounded by freshman haha. Overall, I felt safe and fun living here!
The dorm was clean and nice. I was on the male end of our floor, and our bathroom was clean. The janitor came twice a day to clean the bathroom, once in the morning and once in the evening. The location was central to everything: Gregory gymnasium, PCL (the largest library on campus), and all class locations. Most people staying there were freshmen. There was activity in the Jester Complex (which is isolated from the room areas) almost 24-7, with the Wendy's closing at 4 AM. However, he walls were super solid so you couldn't hear your neighbors or any thing going on outside at all, so were are no worries about loudness. People say that the dorm is for 'extroverts', but that is not entirely true. Introverts can easily come and crash at night...
