    Douglas Apartments

    based on 5 reviews

"Overall, the Douglas apartment was a decent size. One of the rooms are larger and built to be a triple, but the other was built to be a double and converted into a triple. Unfortunately, I was in the smaller room. It was a little cramped, but the fact that I was in an apartment with plenty of living room and kitchen space made it tolerable. I love that the toilet and shower have their own room so you don’t have to wait for someone to get out of the bathroom." - 4 years ago

    Tioga Hall

"The overall structure: There are 4 suits in one floor and each suit there is 3 triple and 3 singles (there is no double in my floor. I’m not sure about other floors) For the bathroom, there are two water basin, two toilet, and two showers. Also, there are 9 shelves next to the water basin to put stuffs for shower. I feel like the shelves are not big enough to put all the stuff I use. For study spaces, there are one small study space for each suit and there is a common area. Two suits share one common area so it gets easily occupied. Also, there is one study space in the right next to the common area which has a similar structure to the one in the suits.

I am living in a single room and I am pretty much satisfied with the room. The size of the room is pretty small but I had no problem with it.

    Pros:
The location is very good. There is two markets right near and it is right in front of mom’s cafe so it is very convenient for coffee lovers. Also, it is pretty much near to the library walk.

It is safe! All the doors and walls are made to minimize the fire transfer when there is a fire. Because of this, the walls and doors are pretty thick which makes it pretty much noise proof. (You cannot hear people right next to your room but still you can hear people in the hallway though)

    Cons:
The problem is that for the lower floors (I’m living in the 2nd floor) it is easy for the bugs (especially the moths!!) to come in to the room and the bathroom. There will be moths or some huge bug all the time I take a shower. As there is no fly screen already attached to the windows, I had to buy one from amazon to prevent the bugs to come in.

Also, the apartment does not have a kitchen or a fridge and only has a sink and a microwave for each two suits. So it is not convenient for people who like cooking.

There was a incident where in one of my suitmates’ room, the window was broken and water leaked when there was a rain. Because of that mold started to spread from the carpet to their mattresses and people living in the room have to move to sixth. " - 9 months ago

    The Fleet

    based on 4 reviews

"This location is great because it's right next to one of the main lecture halls (Galbraith), next to a parking lot, and close to the Center of campus (10-15 minute walk). However there is no elevator so if you are dorming in the 3rd or 4th floor, be prepared for stairs everyday and all the time. There is only one laundry area per building (this is one dorm in an area of buildings that are collectively called the Fleet), so you are sharing one laundry space with 3 other floors. The custodians come once a week on a designated day and a usual time. They are really sweet so be nice to them, keep your things tidy and say hi. You also share one bathroom that has 2 private toilet stalls, 2 shower stalls, and 2 sinks with everyone else in your suite. Your suite consists of 5 rooms with 3 people each so that's 15 people altogether. You'll have to get your mail at the building across." - 4 years ago

    Harlan Hall

    based on 5 reviews

" This dorm is so amazing! I don't even know where to begin! It feels great knowing I have the smallest room on campus with the crappiest bed. The showers came straight from prison. Not to mention, I've seen nicer park bathrooms. I also love not having a kitchen. Really inspires me to go out and eat expensive meals. Our lounge has the budget of a poor African. God forbid you leave the balcony door open for more than 5 minutes as an army of rats will invade the dorm.
Aside from the awful housing conditions Harlan hall attracts the worse kind of people. I can't even sleep without hearing the loud roaring teenagers rage through the hall. My roommate loves to play drums at 2:00 am while everyone wants to go to bed. The laundry room is like a nuclear furnace radiating tremendous amounts of heat, keeping the halls to a nice 90 degrees. There is no advantage to living in Harlan hall other than being the closest to a cliff. If you care about your happiness, don't live here. " - 1 year ago

    Marshall Residence Halls

    based on 7 reviews

    Marshall Residence Halls at UCSD

"The suite I was in had a total of 9 people living in it, and we were very compatible with each other. The suite has a shared common room with a choice, arm chairs, and a coffee table. There is also a nice balcony connected to the common space. A vacuum is provided (all rooms are carpeted). The shared bathroom has 3 sinks, 2 toilets, and 2 showers. However, one of our showers had crazy temperatures that made it practically unusable (and I hear this from some other people from my building on other floors, so it may be specific).

My room had a good amount of space, lots of drawers and storage space in the closet and under the bed. The bed is a twin XL and the mattress is decent, but I would absolutely recommend a mattress topper. I loved that my room had a large window with a view of the ocean (lucky me since I was on one of the top floors). Because the Marshall dorms are so near to the ocean, it’s really convenient if you like walking down to the beach and if you like the ocean breeze coming in through your window. It’s also nice that the dorm is a 2 minute walk to the nearest dining hall, Oceanview Terrace.

There’s no AC but there is heat in the dorms. Laundry is on the bottom floor of some buildings. There’s nice outdoor spaces to hangout around the dorms (grassy field, soccer field, volleyball court, tennis court) and there’s study lounges on the top floors of some buildings (only accessible for Marshall students via key card)." - 4 years ago
