I lived at West Apartments F. These have single rooms and kitchen amenities like a microwave, fridge, oven, and stovetop. Between the 6 people living in a suite, there's enough space to store all your groceries and food. Overall the best dorm I have ever lived in at Stony Brook University
pros: kitchen if you like to cook and comes with a fridge, big living room great for hanging out with friends, i had a really small room back home so the room size is pretty big to me. Two massive bathrooms for a suite of 6. I have singles so I usually never have a problem fighting for the bathroom cons: if your in the older west apartments youll probably be putting work orders all year. Yes theres bugs, yes theres broken cabinets, yes the gas stove sometimes stops working. These apartments are old, and unless you go for the newer ones I-K then you will be placing in a lot of work orders.
West Apts is pretty cool for the price you get. It beats having to pay for a meal plan in other dorms. However, if you don't cook (like me), I recommend just going to another dorm or buying an apartment meal plan and cooking every so often. Or, if you're lucky, room with friends who know how to cook. Extra thing to note -- there's always some sort of work order issue happening in this apartment (I live in West D). For example, my air conditioner suddenly stopped blowing out cold air one day. Just something to keep in mind.
The other comment is objectively false. Staff cleans your kitchen/bathroom/common room weekly and takes out the trash. Your bedroom is your own responsibility. I stayed in West C... A/B/C/D are the oldest and run down... avoid those 4. The others are newer and probably nicer. The only real negative of west is being far from campus.
The room itself was fine but you have to share with 4 sometimes 6 random strangers. They never take out the garbage and you have to clean your own bathroom. (Like that is going to happen.) Very far from main campus unless you have a bike or like taking long walks.
