I loved living in Kerr Hall. No one ever mentions it but the closets in most of the dorms are huge (we put curtains on them and would change inside cause they’re so big). The building is old, but definitely has the most character and homey feeling of any dorm. My double had enough space for me and my roommate, and being on the 6th floor we got a lot of natural sunlight. Never had a problem with the bathrooms being dirty (they are cleaned twice a day!) I love this side of campus, I love being so close to the fens, and I love everyone that I met living here. If you like music (and weed) and want a homey dorm this is the one to chose!
I lived in a triple on the 6th floor during Fall 2019. It was cramped and it felt like they gave 3 guys the room meant for a double, and just called it a "triple." The halls smelled like weed 95% of the time, so do what you will with that information. The bathroom was pretty clean, but they gave the guys the wrong bathroom without urinals, and the girls had the floors with a guy's bathroom, so that's another thing to note. The bathroom showers were also separated wall by wall, but only had a curtain covering the entrance of each shower. The hall did have a soundproof and spacious music room on the first floor, equipped with many functions to reproduce different effects such as stage, auditorium, stadium, etc. The elevators were really slow ...
I lived in one of the bigger doubles in Kerr because it was a corner room. I got really lucky to have two windows on two different walls which was very convenient during early fall when it was hot and we needed air flow. The room itself is nothing special, gets a bit musty because it's carpeted but nevertheless a very cozy space if you make it your own. The building itself is very small but the byproduct of that was a very tight-knit community in which I met some of my best friends. Kerr houses the music kids, so expect a lot of different music, instruments, weed, and overall a very friendly vibe. Couldn't have asked for a better place to live freshman year.
My room was pretty small and it was way too hot year round, but being right by the fens was nice and I liked the bathrooms. Overall felt more close knit than some of the other freshman dorms
The building is kind of funky but some rooms are pretty big (mine wasn’t though), and overall I didn’t mind living here. the heat was really unpredictable all over the building and there were a ton of people who smoked and played instruments really loudly, which is a definite drawback, but it was the music LLC, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. at least it didn’t feel like a prison like some of the other dorms!!
I loved kerr to death. I got lucky because i had one of the big double rooms. The room size does vary a lot, so you could have a very tiny room. This building definitely has character and a homey vibe, but the community is really what makes it special.(bring a fan, even in the winter sometimes the radiators can be a lil touchy but that happens in all the buildings) It's a great location on the park but not too far from everything, you can definitely easily stumble to wollys for a midnight snack. It does tend to smell like weed but it didn't bother me at all. It's a great place to have little parties just be conscious of when the RA's do rounds (usually around 10 and 1 but it depends), I couldn't have asked for a better place to spend my fre...
I was excited to live in the music llc but did not expect kerr to be this crappy!!! the building was originally a hotel so it has a different set up than other dorms. there’s a practice room on the first floor but someone was always in there. I lived on the third floor and did not like it at all. bathroom was always so nasty, hair in the showers, ppl would throw up in the sink. hallways always smelled of weed. there were parties every weekend. I could hear everything from my room. the room was freezing in the winter and so hot in the summer. kerr is probably the worst dorm on campus. the people were nice though!
Overall one of the better freshman options. Typically the Music LLC since there's a soundproof practice room on the first floor. Room sizes do vary but generally feels nice to live in compared to say Stetson's which feel very sterile.
I lived in an economy double which is tiny tiny and doesn't have much natural light. The hallway constantly smelled of weed so if that's your thing then great but it wasn't mine. The bathrooms are kept pretty clean and there's two laundry machines on each floor which is more convenient than having to go to the basement like other dorms. There's a "soundproof" studio that has a keyboard right by the main lobby and a lounge area on the fourth floor. Overall it's pretty cozy and more homey than some of the other freshman dorms.
The location is pretty cool and I liked being over on that edge of campus, but it doesn't feel like it's actually "on campus." The bathrooms were nice, never an issue with that. My room, however, was wayyy too small for three people. Some rooms are better than others with Kerr, and mine was long and narrow and I had to climb over my roommate's chair to get to my bed and desk. All of us had lofted beds, which I did NOT want to have. Other than that, it was a great place to make friends because of the common areas and the fact that Kerr is a small dorm. You see everyone frequently and I got to know most of the people there.
