780 Columbus Ave Reviews
Northeastern University
Reviews Summary
780 Columbus Ave offers a moderately priced dorm experience with a few key conveniences and drawbacks. The lack of an elevator and air conditioning can make summer living uncomfortable, especially in units with limited natural light such as studio doubles where the bedroom is only separated from the living area by a half wall. However, high ceilings and dark wood style furnishings help create a spacious, less traditional dorm-like atmosphere. The kitchen is praised for its user-friendliness and modern appliances. The dorm's location is a mixed bag; it's conveniently near the ISEC bridge and Ruggles, but residing on the Columbus side can feel isolating with access to grocery stores deemed somewhat challenging and safety concerns highlighted. Residents appreciate the renovated nature of the building and its high ceilings, particularly on the ground floor. While the lack of common rooms may detract from the social experience, for those seeking a second-year dorm with the essentials at a fair price, 780 Columbus Ave is a solid, if not perfect, option.

Not bad for the price but no elevator and it gets pretty hot in the summer without any air conditioning.

The natural light is my biggest issue, I live in a studio double where the windows are only in the living room and the bedroom is separated by a half wall. If I wasn't as close w my roommate, I would hate the studio aspect of it, there is no alone/quiet space that you miss out on from having a door/wall between the bedroom and living room/kitchen. The high ceilings and the dark wood style make the room seem much bigger and less dorm-like. I love the kitchen, super user-friendly, and overall new appliances.

I think this is one of the best second-year dorms if you are looking to live in a double or a single because you have everything you need without it being in the enhanced price bracket. Atlhough living across from construction is not ideal right now, it is still a super convenient location being directly across from the ISEC bridge and right by Ruggles. The building is newer and more renovated than most dorms, and the ceilings are really high which makes the rooms feel bigger and less cramped.

It really sucks to be on the Columbus side of campus. Perhaps it’s just me but even going to the grocery store is a hassle (I used to go to Tropical foods because it’s closer but then someone got stabbed in broad daylight on the relatively busy road and I was like not worth it). The room itself was nice enough but there are no common rooms or anything

Lived in a ground floor double with a friend. There wasn't really a bed configuration that put our heads further than 2 feet from one another, so be ready for that. Our room was quite long and skinny. Only lived there for 2 months over the summer, but I think I would have tired of it really quickly. Other than the room itself, the building is fine and the location is great (I prefer living on the Tremont side). Overall 3/5 it's a dorm.

Unbelievably high ceilings on the ground floor rooms, cannot speak for the rest. Conveniently next to ISEC and a corner store with a very nice old cat and shop owner, but far from everything else.
