Is Terry Hall the best dorm at UW?
Students rated Terry Hall a 4/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
Terry Hall is a West Campus, compared to North Campus, residence hall at the very end of West Campus, meaning it is the absolute furthest residence hall from the main campus and takes about a fifteen minute walk to get to classes each and every day. Furthermore, there are triples in rooms the size of double, so you're three roommates crammed inside a room with the amount of space made for two people. Overall, it isn't old or run-down or anything, but its location makes it not very likeable in my opinion and experience.
Terry Hall is overall a good west campus dorm. It is quieter since it is about half the size of the other dorms so there is about half the students. Although, it is a bit further of a walk since it is at the end of the row of the west campus dorms. Probably one of the only good things about the building is that it has a terrace, which you can see downtown Seattle on. Also, if you live here or planning to, make sure you get a room size that is toned for the size of your group. I am currently in a double sized room, but with three people living in it so the space is pretty cramped.
pros: nice people, not too big, new building, roof deck, fairly quiet if your upstairs neighbors are chill cons: -LOCATION. it’s not that far from campus but i have a health condition that makes it so that i get lightheaded doing physical activity and the amount of stairs that it takes to get to campus has been a struggle… i feel like it should be slightly cheaper than, say, alder because the location is worse -the bathrooms are nice but there’s no ventilation of any kind which makes sharing it a bit awkward, i would also be worried about this leading to mold/mildew, but the dorm is new enough that it’s not a problem right now -i didn’t actually take any stars for this because it’s petty but the furniture was not designed for actual human beings. the couches in the lounges are so rectangular that your ass falls asleep after sitting there for like an hour and the beds are made of metal (???) that will clank loudly if they toss or turn a lot in bed
Pros: - It feels newer than I thought. - Living in a double gave enough space. - Very nice view of i-5 bridge and the Main campus Street. - Balcony is very pretty for sunsets. - has own laundry room (pretty big) - vending machines - study room in lobby - music room with piano - main lobby kitchen and lounge Con: - furthest dorm from campus - closest to highway entrance...lots of car noise - only one study room per floor - might have ants if you open window too much
One of the smallest residential halls, so you get pretty familiar with most people's faces. The rooftop deck is honestly a showstopper in terms of dorm amenities, and probably helps combat the severe Vitamin D deficiency found in all UW students. Dorms facing the bridge get lots of light. The only drawbacks for me were that it's the furthest from main campus (so it's an extra two or three minutes to hit Red Square) and it's right next to the off-ramp, so you will hear more traffic sounds than most other dorms do. If you would be really bothered by having to walk a few minutes out of your dorm to get to the dining hall or mailroom, you should dorm in Willow instead. If you use a wheelchair, you shouldn't be on West Campus at all because the closest route to Red Square is a set of stairs to the Sky Bridge on 15th, and the other two paths have a pretty decent slope. Crutches during the rain on West Campus are also a recipe for self-loathing, trust me. All in all, I loved Terry for making it easy to meet people, being a relatively new building (and maintaining that newness), and having beautiful views from every lounge. It's also right in front of the path to the Wall of Death, so great access point for taking a long walk to cry alone on.
