McCarty Hall Reviews

University of Washington North Campus

Reviews Summary

McCarty Hall is a popular residence for students at the University due to its proximity to the campus, including areas like the IMA, Greek Row, and U village. It's particularly convenient for Business and CS majors, as it's very close to related facilities. Also appreciated are the functional amenities, like a spacious closet, a reasonably large desk, and various common areas. However, it may not be suitable for triples due to limited space, thus recommending it more for doubles. Despite boasting features like modern furniture and great lighting, the rooms could induce discomfort over time. The rooms were reportedly dusty and some residents faced issues with noise levels due to thin walls and ceilings, necessitating earplugs for effective sleep. The presence of facilities like the dining hall and study lounges nearby are a plus, but noise from social activities can sometimes make these spaces less conducive for study. The dorm is generally considered clean and comfortable, but lacks air conditioning in individual rooms. There have been few security issues, with incidents of unauthorized entry. Worth noting is the occasional delay in maintenance response. Despite these minor issues, McCarty Hall provides a wholesome college living experience.

McCarty Hall was a great dorm! Having the Mill in the basement, close to the food halls, ice cream shop, our own field to have a picnic or play activities on, and the list goes on. The only con I experienced living there was being on the side of the building closest to Greek row. You might hear the music coming from the frat houses if you live on a certain side, extra noise. Other than that, I really enjoyed it. Do take advantage of living there especially if you get in for Foster Direct Admissions and be in a llc (learning, living, community), it’s worth it.

Mccarty is great! Very close to campus, and the University feeling of the North campus is better. The room size is decent but maybe be better suited for doubles and not triples. Amenities are also decent, with a spacious closet and desk big enough for 34in monitors, but chairs can be uncomfortable for long periods of time. It is also very close and convenient to the IMA. It can be kinda loud at night as north campus is right next to greek row. All in all can complain but my only complaint is how expensive housing is at UW.

I loved living here! It was great for my freshman year especially because I lived in the Foster LLC and had the entire floor of people in my major. Really clean and the dining hall is really close. Don't recommend living in a triple though cuz its too small. Also its pretty far if you're an Engineering/Bio major. Close for Business/CS majors.

The side walls are soundproof but the ceiling and ground walls are thin so you can hear every single footstep someone makes above you. The rooms are very dusty but I personally haven't had a problem with asbestos or mold. I would not recommend getting a triple if your roommate stays in the dorm all the time because you will go crazy. Building amenities are fine, but once in a while some drunk person will destroy the elevator or burst the lounge pipeline and maintenance takes their sweet sweet time trying to fix it. Bathrooms are nice, the hot water comes fast but the shower head is kind of meh, but you can replace it with your own if you'd like. The heater smells like burnt noodles. The washing machine and dryer work fine, it's less crowded...

An important thing to note about McCarty is that the walls are paper thin. I can hear the person above me walking around and opening/closing their closet. I can also hear people talking in the hallway and slamming their doors late at night. I have a single which is awesome, but the noise levels are horrible. I’d highly recommend ear plugs since the noise at night makes it quite difficult to sleep.

Very new and nice amenities - two kitchens on every floor and lots of lounges and study spaces. It’s huge building, so it can be very social (which means it can be loud and sometimes lounges are crowded). Rooms are spacious for two resident but cramped with three (beds are all loftable). Bathrooms are really nice and easy to clean. Very close to the dining hall and close to the quad. There’s also a maker space which is pretty cool.

There are 2 common kitchens for the entire floor. It's a great dorm except that it's really small for a triple. It has modern furniture, great lighting, and the study lounges are a great benefit. It's super close to classes especially the Business school and the Law school
It's safe but there were a 1 or 2 incidents where people not from UW entering the building and breaking some of the common area TVs

Super convenient location for a first year dorm, nice rooms (unless you’re in a triple), and private bathroom!

Pretty good. All the furniture is relatively new since it's a pretty new building. It's also close to Center table, the nook, Mccart workshop, The 8 workshop, a basketball court, the IMA, and the ave. The room could be a little bigger, but it's a a triple. Kind of expected. Try to get a triple corner room if you can. Those are HUGE.

The rooms are new and the furniture is modern. They are more expensive than older dorms but they are clean and comfortable.
