Is McCarty Hall the best dorm at UW?
Students rated McCarty Hall a 4.3/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
The side walls are soundproof but the ceiling and ground walls are thin so you can hear every single footstep someone makes above you. The rooms are very dusty but I personally haven't had a problem with asbestos or mold. I would not recommend getting a triple if your roommate stays in the dorm all the time because you will go crazy. Building amenities are fine, but once in a while some drunk person will destroy the elevator or burst the lounge pipeline and maintenance takes their sweet sweet time trying to fix it. Bathrooms are nice, the hot water comes fast but the shower head is kind of meh, but you can replace it with your own if you'd like. The heater smells like burnt noodles. The washing machine and dryer work fine, it's less crowded during mid-day of weekdays. Since the building is close to Greek row, you'll hear parties being thrown at a Tuesday night with very loud music. I find it a bit far from my classes but most of my classes are on the south end on campus and I am a lazy person. North campus is closer to U village if you like shopping.
An important thing to note about McCarty is that the walls are paper thin. I can hear the person above me walking around and opening/closing their closet. I can also hear people talking in the hallway and slamming their doors late at night. I have a single which is awesome, but the noise levels are horrible. I’d highly recommend ear plugs since the noise at night makes it quite difficult to sleep.
Pretty good. All the furniture is relatively new since it's a pretty new building. It's also close to Center table, the nook, Mccart workshop, The 8 workshop, a basketball court, the IMA, and the ave. The room could be a little bigger, but it's a a triple. Kind of expected. Try to get a triple corner room if you can. Those are HUGE.
Really nice building. The quad room is a little small for 4 people though. No A/C in the room, and no portable AC units are allowed, but I believe the common parts of the building are air conditioned. Super new and nice building.
I loved living here! It was great for my freshman year especially because I lived in the Foster LLC and had the entire floor of people in my major. Really clean and the dining hall is really close. Don't recommend living in a triple though cuz its too small. Also its pretty far if you're an Engineering/Bio major. Close for Business/CS majors.
