Pros: - Its close to campus Cons: - Fire alarms every other day. - Shower is tiny and no bidet attachment. - Smaller dorm building. - No stoves on any of the floors except the second. Most halls on campus has one on every floor. - Boring - Water pressure is terrible.
Bathrooms fine, sink water pressure a little low, rooms very room for doubles (not triples though). Quiet hall but I like that so I can get actual sleep and study. Also the closest dorm to campus and the ave. Only drawback is the only kitchens are on the second floor.
Poplar Hall is the closest dorm to the university and the Ave, which is why I rated it highly in terms of location. However, because it is close to the Ave, the dorm is closer to the street violence that could/has occurred on the Ave. The dorm has spacious rooms, as most of the rooms are doubles with a private bath. Unlike Terry and Maple, the dorm does not have a kitchen on every floor, but only one for the entire building. The shared space is decent, but not well maintained, with food often being left out or smeared on the couches. The dorm doesn't have the same community feel as North Campus dorms do, and everyone keeps to themselves.
Poplar Hall is located on West Campus just outside the campus's central area. It is located right beside University Way NE (aka "the Ave"), a popular street full of food, dessert, thrift stores, escape rooms, Target, and the Neptune Concert venue. You also get a great view of Red Square, the Ave, or nearby west campus dorms depending on your assigned room in Poplar. All Poplar residents have access to the elevator-side relaxation lounges with an excellent view of the Space Needle (SN). (Although Lander Hall = best view of SN) Singles dorms get their own kitchen, microwave, refrigerator, stovetop, and bathroom + showers ALL included within the room (but it does cost extra). However, doubles and triples, only have bathrooms + showers in...
I lived here in a double my freshman year. I had almost no complaints about the building itself, except that there's only one kitchen in the entire building, unlike most newer dorms with one on each floor. However, I also felt like this dorm was a little quieter than other dorms like maple or McCarty. I kinda wished that I lived in a more social dorm. Overall, it's a chill place in good condition.
Underrated because it's a smaller hall and there's still two elevators to service the whole building. Always quick elevator rides, never had one of them trips where you hit every floor on the way up/down. Very good proximity to the ave with the alleyway exit, district market and local point right across the street, and the closest dorm to campus out of the west campus buildings.
Triple in what should’ve been a double, but I think it was ok! you need to tap your student card to take the stairs so it felt pretty safe. There’s only one kitchen in the whole building which kind of sucked, since others had one on each floor. Location is the best out of all west campus dorms since it’s right next to the save and bridge to most lecture halls.
Compared to the other dorms, Poplar is a centralized location, being the closest to the Ave and Red Square. The District Market, buses, and Dining Hall are all located just across the street. The Northgate bus is right outside, which was very nice. My year had everyone talking to each other, and I actually made a number of my friends (that I still talk with) there. The alleyway is used for easy loading and unloading when you move in and move out. The part I did not like was how there was only one kitchen, and it was on the second floor, where the studios were. It is also arguably the most secure building, with a lot of the doors requiring your UW ID to open. My friends and I liked to use the office rooms on the first floor to stu...
Pros: - Nice view of Red Square - Pool table on the 2nd floor that isn't as crowded as Maple's - Close to campus and food (the Ave/Local point/District market) Cons: - Nobody talks to each other - Low water pressure in bathroom faucet
Small hall, not super social just due to the lack of people, but everyone I met was always super nice. I think poplar dorm rooms tend to be bigger than other halls so that's a plus. Only downside is there is only one kitchen for the entire hall rather than one kitchen per floor like in most halls.
