Siddall Hall

Pretty average dorm. The beds are standard Twin XL beds. I'd recommend bringing some sort of memory foam mattress topper. The rooms have air conditioning/ heating, but you cannot control the temperature (It's all the same temp throughout the building). You can however control the intensity that it blows at. The bathrooms are communal, and they certainly aren't the nicest bathrooms out there, but it could definitely be a whole lot worse. For the showers, definitely buy some sort of shower shoes... There are three elevators that are fairly fast. The laundry is in the basement. All of the washing machines work, but a handful of the drying machines are pretty crappy. The building is pretty close to CCM, and it is connected to MarketPointe. It is also really close to the amazon pickup location so that was nice. On each floor, there's a little 'kitchen' area. Basically, there's a sink, an oven/stove, (which I wouldn't exactly recommend using) and a microwave. The social aspect can vary depending on your floor, but on my floor, it wasn't too outgoing. Don't get me wrong, I made a handful of good friends on my floor, but for the most part, everyone kept their doors closed. The dorm as a whole is pretty active when it comes to social events. It's not uncommon to see people hanging out on the lobby floor. The second floor is the study floor. For the most part, everyone is respectful and is quiet when they are on the second floor. Overall, I enjoyed living in Siddall. - 4 years ago

Turner Hall
based on 4 reviews
While choosing a dorm, many people say how turner “isn’t social”, and well, they’re right. I honestly didn’t know anyone on my floor. If you want to meet others, you have to go out of your way. Regardless, I loved living there and would do it again. The private bathroom is a HUGE perk, especially the showers. The living room is nice if you want to have a dorm party or movie night with friends. The AC worked great and could be set to whatever you wanted. The laundry rooms were never crowded. There’s only two elevators so they can be slow if you’re on a high floor. Highly recommend! Many others ways to meet people at UC than your dorm. - 4 years ago

Dabney Hall

The dorm room itself isn’t bad, but isn’t great. Definitely a right fit for two people. My roommate and I bunked our beds to try to save on space, but it still didn’t feel great.
The furniture and closets were fine, the window AC unit was fine, but the bathrooms were pretty gross. They were technically cleaned regularly, but the showers consistently had hair in them and generally weren’t great.
There’s a small kitchen on the 4th floor and laundry is on the 5th, so definitely choose the 5th floor if you don’t want to have to carry your stuff up and down the stairs. - 4 years ago4 student reviewers said they lived in Dabney Hall during their freshman year

Calhoun Hall

Very average dorm hall. Paid laundry is pretty dumb so if you have a friend with a house or apartment with free laundry I would recommend taking it there. 3 elevators constantly breaking resulting in lines and full elevators when it gets to your floor. If you live on floors 1-4 don't take the elevator to avoid nasty looks and holding up people coming from higher floors.
A few break-ins happened during my first semester, doesn't help that it's facing a more dangerous area. Three doorways but you can only use the back door for safety reasons.
The 13th (top) floor is a study floor with good drinking fountains and two private bathrooms (no showers) if you need to go while your floor's is getting cleaned or, more commonly, there's a clog or vomit all over the floor. Housekeeping doesn't come on weekends so be prepared to look out for vomit on the floor and in the showers (especially on the girl floors).
You have your choice of boiling or freezing water for showers unless you're willing to wait on the one (maybe two) stalls with normal temperatures that are always taken by the early birds.
Busy street outside with honking and sirens being a constant headache. It's much worse on lower floors but still audible on higher floors.
Kitchens are nasty on every floor, nuke what you can in your microwave.
Thankfully I had a really great roommate and made some great memories despite a rather dumpy building and situation. No bugs or mice. - 4 years ago4 student reviewers said they lived in Calhoun Hall during their freshman year

Daniels Hall

Let's be honest, everywhere you live as a freshman will suck if you're going for the cheaper option. If you live on the ELLC floors you will rarely have issues with noise while studying. It's also very easy to make friends here. Any other issue you may have with the place you'll get used to in less than a month. Is it spacious? Not unless you count storage space. Is it clean? Actually yeah it's not too bad for a dorm. Is it pretty? If you enjoy the painted concrete - submarine aesthetic, sure it's pretty. Is it a place I called home for 8 months and won't ever forget? Bet your ass. - 4 years ago
