Everyone likes to diss on Dabney, but honeslty I quite liked the dorm. The double size I felt was more usable than other dorms at UC. Also the rooms had tons of storage which was really nice. Try to stick to lower floors if possible because of the no elevator.
The dorm room itself isn’t bad, but isn’t great. Definitely a right fit for two people. My roommate and I bunked our beds to try to save on space, but it still didn’t feel great. The furniture and closets were fine, the window AC unit was fine, but the bathrooms were pretty gross. They were technically cleaned regularly, but the showers consistently had hair in them and generally weren’t great. There’s a small kitchen on the 4th floor and laundry is on the 5th, so definitely choose the 5th floor if you don’t want to have to carry your stuff up and down the stairs.
VERY social. I lived on the 4th floor (which is basically the first floor) and my room felt bigger and the floor overall was kept cleaner than higher up. Knew people on the 6th floor that felt like it was dirtier, but again VERY social.
The dorm itself fosters a community where the whole floor can know each other. That is about where the positives stop. If you get along well with your roommates everything will be okay but the rooms are so cramped that you have no privacy whatsoever. The hallways feel like a prison and the bathrooms are cleaned what felt like once a month. There are also no elevators so be prepared for that.
