University of Massachusetts Amherst Sophomore Dorms Ranked

Ranking the best sophomore dorms at University of Massachusetts Amherst, according to students.

  • Number 5

    Brown Hall

    based on 2 reviews

    Brown Hall at UMass Amherst

    "Pros:
    - only share bathroom with 6-8 other people
    - bathroom is cleaned every morning by staff!!
    - 3-5 min walk to Worcester Dining Commons
    - generally closer to campus than Southwest
    - great community, people are lovely
    - sylvan snack bar + lots of outdoor space in front of brown to hang out

    Cons:
    - smaller rooms, if you get a single you're fine though
    - not as much natural light/tiny windows
    - walls are kind of thin

Overall, if you love going out but also need space to focus and study, Brown's a great place to live in comparison to other dorms at UMass. It's not as far as SW dorms, barely up a hill, close to Worcester & center of campus, and you'll watch tons of beautiful sunsets

    Brett Hall

    based on 2 reviews

    Brett Hall at UMass Amherst

"Super close to Frank Dining Hall and most of my classes. There’s no hill to walk up and it’s one of the only buildings in Central Residential Area to have an elevator. The whole building is also ADA compliant." - 4 years ago

    Coolidge Hall

    based on 4 reviews

    Coolidge Hall at UMass Amherst

"Z rooms are great, i lived in Coolidge 3/4 years i was at UMass in the same room (1703) and I would honestly live there after that if I could. 17th floor is great. Elevators are fast, its next to Hamp, its in the center-ish of southwest. close to Isenberg, the parking lots and the stadium. 7 minute walk from the gym/mullins center. 10/10 would live again. If you dont mind communal bathrooms (5 showers, 5 toilets, i rarely ever showered with more than 1 other person in there, most of the time i was alone), everything else is perfect about that building." - 4 years ago

    John Quincy Adams Hall

    based on 4 reviews

John Quincy Adams Hall at UMass Amherst

"The dorms are generally going to be z-rooms, which means you and your roommate will have slightly more privacy than traditional shared rooms. Single used bathrooms are located on the ground floor and 3 more spread across the building, lots of laundry rooms, not a lot of laundry machines per room, you have to do laundry on weekdays if you want to have a good chance to do it. bathrooms are pretty clean depending on what the people on your floor are like. if your floor is high up, you will have to walk down the stairs when there is a fire alarm, and southwest dorms are famous for having a lot of them throughout the year. the windows are big and have a great view of the outside, that is if you get lucky with the side of the room with the windows, otherwise you are living in a closed off space of the room with no access to the windows at all, unless your roommate is nice" - 11 months ago

    Prince Hall

    based on 13 reviews

    Prince Hall at UMass Amherst

"Prince Hall located in the Southwest residential area is a low-rise, multi-year community, and break housing dorm. The closest dining halls are Hamp and Berk which are just a 3 or 5-minute walk away respectively. The dorm rooms are very spacious and there is a closed-off reading room which is a nice place to study. Although the dorm is located far away from most of the campus, there is a bus stop just outside the dorm. The main negatives of this dorm include very limited bathroom stalls and showers, not enough washers/dryers for the number of residents, and being very loud and noisy on the weekends. Overall, if you do not mind these negatives it is not a bad option for students looking to live on campus. " - 1 year ago
