UC Los Angeles Sophomore Dorms Ranked

Ranking the best sophomore dorms at UC Los Angeles, according to students.

  • Number 5

    Rieber Vista

    based on 10 reviews

    Rieber Vista at UCLA

"Rieber Vista is a great building central on the Hill. It is close to Rendezvous and Feast, a take out eatery and dining hall, respectively, as well as the UCLA Maker Space where you can utilize sewing machines, 3D printing machines, and more. Each room has air conditioning and the hallways are wide and rooms are relatively spacious since they are suites. Bathrooms are private for each two rooms (the rooms are connected through the bathroom technically but no one uses this to go into the other rooms) that are cleaned once a week. They have two sinks, a shower, and toilet. One of the downsides is that it is kind of noisy on Thursday nights since it is in close proximity to many other dorms and people walk around nearby after and before parties. But I love the location overall. If you can comfortably afford a single I recommend it. ONE DOWNSIDE to suites versus traditional halls is that they are less social due to the lack of communal bathrooms. If you want to make friends it is slightly harder but if you stay in the common lounge during a lot of your free time you'll make friends soon enough. Like all the buildings, there is laundry on the first floor, a large lounge, and a small residential office open 9-4 or 5 on weekdays. Communal lounges are on every floor as well as one unisex bathroom." - 4 years ago

    Olympic Hall

    based on 9 reviews

    Olympic Hall at UCLA

"I love Olympic because it's new and modern. While it is further up the hill, I think the niceness of Olympic is worth the walk, plus it's a good workout. I like that it has really nice study areas (the canopy and understory) and I also love that there's an easy takeout food spot in the building (the drey). The one issue I have with the building is the elevator breaks like every couple weeks because there are so many residents (2 elevators for probably like 2000 people). Also, the air vents are hella dusty. But in general, I love olympic more than other dorms and I chose it again after my freshman year." - 1 year ago

    Centennial Hall

    based on 8 reviews

    Centennial Hall at UCLA

"I love living in Centennial! The rooms are massive, it feels very spacious even living in a triple and there is plenty of storage. The windows are quite large and on the side facing the tennis courts (which I am), you have a great view and sunset as well as free entertainment (watching the tennis courts below). The AC is very nice as well. The rooms have plenty of storage although one dresser (beneath bed) is smaller. My only other complaint is that there is a beam above one of the sides that can make either the top bunk or loft person in danger for hitting their head.

In terms of the actual building I really like the newness and cleanliness of it. Previously I lived in Olympic so the move to Centennial was not that drastic but I do highly prefer it comparatively. The floors are smaller and there is one big lounge which makes the space more centralized. Also there is an automatic water bottle filler which is a HUGE plus compared to Olympic. The one thing about Centennial that I have complaints about is the proximity to campus--it is all the way up the hill and walks up and down can be a drag. But convenience to food is pretty good (very close to study, VERY VERY close to the Drey and not too far from all else).

I really loved my time in Centennial and hope others in the future will as well:) " - 1 year ago

    Sproul Hall

    based on 10 reviews

    Sproul Hall at UCLA

"Rooms: Google "UCLA Sproul Hall room" to see pictures of what the room looks like. My room also had higher ceilings than the one I had the previous year in Rieber, so that's nice.

Restrooms: Sproul had older feeling restrooms than Rieber. Sproul is overall a grungy experience tbh. Pro tip: check that your toilet stall has toilet paper before using it.

Laundry: A lot of machines; the advantages of classic halls. (Sproul Cove and Landing seriously lack in machines...and they don't work too) Most machines work most of the time.

Elevators: There are 2, 1 for each side (which is not enough). They also frequently stop working, so one frequently ends up taking the stairs. The most despised aspect of living here.

Location and Food: Sproul Hall doesn't require stairs, just walk up a stretch of a decently steep hill. It's close to Bruin Plate (healthy food dine-in buffet), Bruin Cafe (American?? generic? bland? takeout), Cafe 1919 (Italian takeout), and Covel (Mediterranean + pasta dine-in buffet), the mailroom. Basically the Sproul region is the best area because it's closest to all the better food and doesn't require leg workouts. Also, the south side rooms have a Gorgeous view over campus. However, band practice is also clearly heard in the afternoon (only in fall tho).

Pro tip: If you're choosing rooms, avoid being near the elevator...it's noisy" - 4 years ago

    Cove and Landing

    based on 16 reviews

"Probably the best dorm you can get at UCLA for a communal style dorm. The bathrooms are new and clean, location is central to all food and closest to campus (20 min to macgowan) and the gym (less then 5 min). I had both a deluxe triple and a double here, and both were great experiences. Would totally recommend if you are a sophomore or junior as it is less socially active and just want a nice quiet dorm. I have seen people become friends with each other through floor activities so if that is your thing, that can happen too, but not as common as very "freshman" dorms.

Only negative was that the air conditioner would never turn off so it was always cold and dry. Room services will not fix it and they never replied or came to help. I assume there is actually no way to turn it completely off. (at least on my floor - some floors had different air conditioning buttons). " - 2 years ago
