This is the best dorm on campus in my opinion. It has private bathrooms, so you don’t have to deal with communal bathrooms. The rooms are quite large compared to most dorm rooms on campus. It’s a generally accepting environment (especially for queer students). It’s very quiet (you can always go elsewhere for wilder parties). The kitchen and elevator are outdated. However, the building is right next to dejope. You’re basically closer to the dining hall than the kids who live in dejope. Depending on what side of the dorm you are on, you might get a sick lake view. It’s right on the lakeshore path and a short walk to the bus stop. There are plenty of study spaces in the building that are not crowded, so you don’t always have to trek to the lib...
More expensive but private large rooms with bathrooms. People are friendly and it’s a great place if you’re a minority or member of an underrepresented group on campus as the Open House learning community is there and tries to be incredibly welcoming. Kitchen is super outdated and overheats, elevator kind of sucks and it’s farthest dorm from campus but right next to Dejope so you basically don’t have to travel for food or better amenities and it’s right on the lakeshore path and bus line. Basically no complaints.
Social if you want it to be -- not a big party dorm like Sellery or Witty, but you can find people who will want to if you try.
This dorm may be the "hidden gem" of UW Madison. Not too many people know about it but it definitely offers one of the best rooms, if not the best rooms on campus. It comes with a private bathroom and is bigger than the average dorm on campus. It's farther from most buildings but is right on the lake and close to the hospitals, pharmacy school, and nursing school. The building is on the quieter side and there are little to know parties going on (which in my opinion is a great thing). In conclusion, Phillips is great for a more introverted student who's main priority is academics over partying. It also offers some of the best quality rooms on campus.
