Honestly, communal bathrooms and the smaller room sizes isn't that bad if you're not too particular about your living situation. It does get hot in the summertime with no AC (that was maybe an issue from August to maybe October), and my room's heater doesn't work (but it hasn't bothered me that much). Location-wise, it's pretty convenient — some classrooms are pretty walkable, it's close to a rideshare pick-up area (EVK/McCarthy Way entrance) and it's right next to a dining hall (EVK). It is very close to McCarthy Quad, which hosts a lot of concerts and events in the evenings, which can be good (don't have to walk too far to attend events) or bad (it can be a bit loud at times, especially if you go to bed early). I lived in Birnkrant my freshman year and it was a pretty standard dorm. The room sizes are nice with big windows and lots of closet space. The building is above a Starbucks, next to the library, and close to the other freshman dorms which is very convenient. My only complaint is that the bathrooms were not always super clean, but I guess that's to be expected sharing with a lot of people!
printing and packages r at new north bc our customer service center is the same as new north. it’s a little inconvenient at times but it’s honestly not that far of a walk so it’s ok. the stair and elevator situation is lowkey a pain since we have an elevator that only goes to even floors and one that only goes to odd floors. also the stairs r only emergency exit unless you want to go from floor to floor (basically u can’t enter the stairs from the bottom floor and can’t exit out the building from the stairs either). that’s honestly my biggest problem w birnkrant.
Birnkrant is a typically dorm but there's no AC so it gets really hot in the fall/summer. Location is really nice and convenient because it's right next to Leavey and the Village and classes are at a good distance. Bathrooms are shared by the floor and it can get loud sometimes.
Not a bad place to live freshman year, you can definitely create a good mix of social life and academics.
Good building because it's close to EVK, the Fryft pick up zone, and the other dorms but it's also quiet since everything happens at New North. I liked it because I could go party somewhere else and come back and sleep no problem. Cons: bathrooms were communal with 50 people and needed to be cleaned more. No air conditioning
Pretty nice community and great location in campus. However bathrooms are small, not much privacy, and bathrooms can be dirty.
