Is Garrigus Suites the best dorm at UConn?
Students rated Garrigus Suites a 4.2/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
Garrigus gave me a pretty great experience for many reasons. Despite it being on a hill, it's an easy walk down right to the center of campus for a late night run to the Union or a quick walk to the Rec Center. I lived on the top floor, which meant we had high ceilings. I definitely think this made the room feel a lot bigger, as the rooms on the lower floors had low ceilings and made the rooms seem smaller. A high ceiling goes a long way! There are lounges on every floor, as well as one giant one across from the main entrance that looks out over the Sherman Family Sports Complex. The best part of Garrigus was AIR CONDITIONING! It was the only dorm I lived in that offered it, and we ended up having friends come sleep on our floor during hotter nights because their dorms were so hot. You can call and an automated voice will help you set the temperature. It was amazing. I also think the bathrooms were okay, it was nice not having to see strangers (if you lived with friends on the other side of the suite, that is). Garrigus was the best dorm I lived in by far.
Garrigus is an awesome place to live if you have close friends that you're living with. If you're coming from dorm life, it's a huge upgrade to have your own bathroom and sharing it with five other people isn't that bad. Garrigus wasn't the most social building, most people kept to themselves for the most part. There's a lot of different study lounges to use if your room is too loud, too. The biggest downside to Garrigus is living in a triple. I love both my roommates dearly, but sometimes I just wanted to have some alone time and not have to be social but it was hard to come by. But overall, I loved my time in Garrigus. It's the on-campus housing I'd choose to live in again. Though Busby is also nice and has a larger closet, I think Garrigus' location makes it far, far superior.
Garrigus the best time ever. The 4th floor has amazing high ceilings and the location is the best.
Really good if you can get groups of 3 and 3 next to each other. Very good location for gym and center of campus classes. Newish building compares to others/ nicer hallways and lounge areas. Laundry room is tight but manageable if you time it right. Bathroom is shared between two suites but up to you to keep it clean.
Overall, I think Garrigus is great. The views are great, its close to the center of campus, and its right next to Putnam which is a pretty reliable dining hall. My only complaint has to do with the bathroom. I think having a private bathroom is good because it actually gives people incentive to keep it clean (unlike other dorms I lived in where the bathrooms were usually filthy). However, when having one bathroom shared with 6 people, there's gonna be times where you gotta use the bathroom and there's someone in there. Minor complaint, but I wish there was at least a common bathroom
