Is East Campus - Holcomb & Sprague the best dorm at UConn?

Holcomb is a hidden gem on campus. All girls, mostly upperclassmen who want to be left alone. Building was built in the 20s, therefore no elevator, not great heating, and no AC. But pro of that is that all of the rooms are a different size. Even the smallest single is massive. Being next to Whitney dining hall was clutch, and it was surprisingly close to all of my classes in Fairfield way. One of the only other cons is that if you want to have a car, the parking is super small behind the building and if you don’t get a spot there, you have to go park up at towers and walk back down.

I have lived in East Campus for three years - in a Holcomb double my sophomore year and in a Sprague single for my junior and senior years. I absolutely love this area of campus. It's very quiet and perfect for those who want to live on campus but also want a more adult, apartment-like atmosphere, where people are respectful and generally keep to themselves. The rooms themselves are a reasonable size and comfortable, with a homey feel. I loved coming back here from a long day of classes / activities or a fun night out to some peace and quiet. Plus Whitney is the best dining hall on campus with a lot of healthy options to choose from. Despite being across the road from the center of campus, its actually not as far as it seems (7 min walk to the library, 10 min walk to TLS). There are only a few cons, but I found them to be minor inconveniences at most. A Lot is small, so sometimes you have to park up the hill at T / W Lot. The buildings are some of the oldest on campus (from the 40s and 50s), so naturally things tend to break once in a while. The communal bathrooms can be a bit gross because of age and also for typical dorm bathroom reasons. There is no air conditioning in any of the buildings except in the dining hall, but that is only an inconvenience for the first two weeks of classes. East Campus tends to attract mostly juniors / seniors. Depending on if you have enough credits, rising sophomores might be able to nab one of the remaining doubles but probably not a single.

I have a single in Holcomb (Sophomore year) and LOVE it! I would return if I wasn't getting an apartment next year. It is an all-female dorm but non-binary people who were born female are welcome as well! My room isn't too small and it's super cozy. I love the look and feel of the overall building and common room. Because it's old it does have it's problems (western conifer seed bugs, some toilets are easily clogged, no elevator) but overall it's in good condition! It has a kitchen which is nice, but the times I've been there it hasn't been the cleanest (residents are in charge of the main messes they make). The main road can be a little loud at times, but it hasn't been too bothering. Everyone is super kind and it's just a nice spot to be! I HIGHLY recommend.

Right next to one of the best dining halls on campus. Room was small but in good condition, and quite hot, which might be a plus depending on how much you like warmth (but the windows open if you need them to). No insects, rats, or other infestations, and it was very close to the downtown Storrs area and the parking garage, as well as the library. People mostly want to be left alone, which again might be a plus or a minus. There are two common areas/lounges, one is for quiet study and the other (downstairs and far away from the rooms) is for all-night socializing. There's a fireplace in the lounge which is quite pleasant when it's lit, and there's also a fireplace in the next-door dining hall. I have only two complaints: there was no snack machine and the drinks machine never seemed to work right. I'm a night owl and I like to have a snack before I go to bed. The second complaint is that the outlets were a little annoying to get to, I had to crawl around under the desk and over the bed.

Quiet dorm with nice architecture. Great place to live if you're an HDFS of anthro major bcs most if your classes will be within a 3 min walk. It's a longer walk to the main area of campus but if you're a person that likes walking like myself then it won't be an issue.
