Is Townhouse Community the best dorm at Cornell?
Students rated Townhouse Community a 4/5 stars. Here's what they had to say.
One of the worst dorms on campus, in my opinion. The rooms are bigger than your average dorm room, and you have your own kitchen and living room. But those are literally the only benefits. The townhouses are at the top of North Campus, meaning you're far from your friends. Since you're living with just 4-5 others, you dont really have a solid friend group unless you really like the people you are living with. The bathroom is split between a large room for showering with sinks, and a literal closet with a toilet. You can't close or open the door unless you're practically standing in the toilet.
I loved the townhouses - you and your three roommates will have your own kitchen, bathroom, and living room with couches/table. It’s awesome for having friends over and if you like to cook/bake. It is the farthest dorm from central campus, so be ready to walk/bus to class, but you get tons of extra space!
Loved the townhouses insomuch that they were essentially our own apartment. Though the community is mostly athletes, my house was 2 doubles (so 4 females, non-athletes), kitchen, living room, bathroom. The biggest perk is having to share the bathroom with only 4 people. The space itself wasn't too new or old. You have direct control over the heating and AC. Windows were nice as well. Adding your own decorations is a must. Living room provides a LOT of space for you to put in your stuff (couches, TVs, karaoke machines, bikes, etc...) Lived in Quad B, so was right across the street from RPCC. I did not mind the location at all, and walked to all of my classes even though there is a bus stop right in front of my house, though this may be different for other quads. Kind of lacking a sense of community, as the athletes remain in their teams and you do not have the typical dorm hallway suffering/bonding experience. But overall, I enjoyed living here.
While the townhouses are a bit far from central campus, there are about 4 bus stops that are just outside the community. I shared a townhouse with 5 others (6 people is the max from what I’ve heard) and it was still super comfy. There’s a kitchen, a full living room, and the toilet is separate from the shower & double sinks. Big double rooms, and RPCC is right across the road. Would definitely recommend the townhouses to any incoming freshman.
The houses are mostly filled with athletes and exchange students. If you don't fit into one of these groups or room with people who are, you will probably not have many close friends here. They are farthest from central but basically 30 ft from a bus stop at all times.
