Mesa Court Reviews
UC Irvine
Reviews Summary
Mesa Court offers a variety of housing options, from the newer three-story buildings like Aldea to the original classics and towers. The community fosters a tight-knit, communal atmosphere with social activities and shared spaces like courtyards, volleyball nets, fitness rooms, and recreational areas. While some residents praised the cleanliness of the bathrooms and common areas, others expressed concerns about occasional maintenance issues like broken elevators. Many students enjoyed the spaciousness of quad rooms in towers like Playa, despite the lack of air conditioning. Proximity to campus, laundry facilities, and well-maintained kitchens were highlighted as positives, along with the social opportunities within the dorm. However, some residents felt that the noise levels, bathroom cleanliness, and distance from certain campus locations were downsides to consider. Overall, Mesa Court provides a vibrant living experience with a mix of amenities and challenges that contribute to a memorable first-year housing experience.

I loved living in the Mesa Court Towers! I lived in a quad but the rooms were still very spacious with lots of storage. It was also nice that it was right next to the Anteatery. The social life at Mesa Court is definitely better than Middle Earth, and the cafeteria has more seats as well.
I lived in Aldea in Mesa Court. Mesa Court has a tight knit and has a very commune feel. Aleda, although being one of the newer 3 story buildings in the area, is near the outer edge. It's across from the lower level of the community center and is like a 10 minute walk to campus. Its close to parking lots 5 and 18 though. From my experience, the bathrooms were hella stinky but the janitors did a good job of cleaning it up. There was only 3 common rooms and I prefered studying at my friend's older hall. I think MC itself overall was a pretty nice place to live. There's like a courtyard/main space in the middle between the classics and towers with a volleyball net. There's also a fitness and rec room under Playa.
I stayed in the Mesa Towers, specifically the Playa Tower. The quad room was very roomy and didn't feel congested. It's a great location and having the dining hall right next to you is very convenient. Also, if you apply for the Mesa Towers, the chance of getting it is much higher than if you applied for the Middle Earth Towers. You share a bathroom with another quad room, but since the bathroom has 2 toilets, 2 sinks, and 2 showers, it feels very spacious. The bathroom would get cleaned often, and everyone had enough space to store their belongings. The only negative experience I had with my dorm was that the elevator in Playa broke for a few months and taking the stairs to the fifth floor every day was exhausting. Lastly, the social life ...
One thing about vista is that building is so fking cursed every day there’s a new problem in the building every day there’s more loud neighbors every day the bathroom smells like the sewers of hell and the cleaning crew doesn’t come anymore and the damn door keeps being left open and the ppl on the first floor are the most annoying ppl everrrrrr love the RA tho and the snacks left in common room go crazy
Pros: more social than classics (single/double/triple halls), share restroom with less people than classics (2 toilets and 2 showers for 8 people), decent storage space (closets, cabinets, drawers) Cons: no window screens and windows can't open all the way, bunk beds, less room per person (4 people) compared to classics, higher floors have to wait for elevator Attached are pictures of 2 closets in between the bunk beds, 2 stalls, 1 shower on each side, 2 sinks
The towers at Mesa Court have clean kitchens, laundry rooms, and communal lounge spaces. The rooms get plenty of natural light during the day and the blackout curtains are really useful when you want to make the room a little darker. The bathrooms are maintained well and get cleaned every week so they’re usually pretty clean.
I was an engineering freshman when I was living at Mesa Court, and I found it to all around be a good experience. The pros include good proximity to athletic events, plenty of green space and trees, and easy access the arts school and campus in general. The biggest issue I had was with bathrooms, which weren't necessarily bad but having 12 people using one bathroom was a lot sometimes, and as such things broke or ran out fairly often. Also, it was very far from where many of my classes were - this could be a pro or a con depending on if you find walking/biking to class to be a relaxing activity or an annoying one. I thought it was great, but I know people who did not.
i lived in isla! my room faced south so it got lots of natural light. size was pretty comfortable for a double; i actually had a room that used to be an old study room so it was slightly smaller than a normal double but still spacious enough. bathrooms were okay, the toilet flushing power is amazing but i think the toilets at uci in general have great flushing capabilities. don't ask how i know that. the showers would get clogged super easily though because people didn't pick up their hair. laundry situation is decent. mesa court in general is a great and beautiful location relative to the rest of campus, but since isla is very far from ring road it is a bit of a walk just to get to the main campus (like 7 minutes + burning calves - there a...
I lived in Cumbre. The building was pretty old but was reasonably clean. 2 people per room and 1 bathroom (with 2 showers, 2 toilets, and 2 sinks) for every 6 rooms.
This review is specifically for the phase 1 buildings of Mesa Court. The hall that I stayed at was Camino, and it was one of the original dorms there. To be honest, it wasn't the nicest out of all of the Mesa Court Dorms, but it wasn't horrible. There's no A/C in the dorms so be prepared to bring a fan for the Hot weather in Irvine. Wifi is really good so no need to worry about that. Bathrooms are okay, you are in a shared suite section that includes 3-5 other rooms. So if your suite has all doubles then you are sharing the bathroom with roughly 6-10 people. I really like the intimate feeling that the classic mesa court dorms had to offer and overall loved my experience! Of course I would've loved more room, but for freshman housing I reall...
