Joe West Hall Reviews
San Jose State University
Reviews Summary
Joe West Hall is a dorm that offers a blend of both advantages and drawbacks, as highlighted by its residents. Conveniently located next to the Dining Commons and the mail room, it provides easy access to meals and postal services, which students appreciate. Its central location is a boon for getting to classes quickly. However, the lack of air conditioning is a major downside, especially during the sweltering summer months. The rooms vary in size, with singles offering a decent amount of space and some featuring a unique addition of a sink. The building's interior is often described as maze-like and dark, reminiscent of less comfortable environments. Facilities, including elevators and bathrooms, are frequently in disrepair, with elevators breaking down often and bathrooms suffering from clogs and water damage. Laundry facilities are inadequate, leading to long wait times. Despite these challenges, Joe West Hall fosters a strong sense of community, making it a social hub for students who value building friendships.

Decent dorms but too expensive compared to the amenities given. There is no AC and you have to bring all your own appliances. They are in a convenient location for classes though.

I lived here freshmen year last year and all I could say is that if you got a single, it was pretty solid imo. I had a single that had a sink in the room which was odd but the overall experience in JW wasnt pretty bad except the laundry. Luckily, I lived close to home so when the laundry situation got terrible, I would just go back home and do it there. The sense of community however is nice, everyone talked to eachother and I made some good friends.

Pros of living in joe west are that you’re right next to the dining common and mail room and there’s a bigger sense of community on the floors. Cons are that there is no ac so it gets incredibly hot in the summers, elevators are always breaking, bathrooms are dirty and poorly maintained, whole bathroom need to be replaced it’s old and outdated and the sinks are always clogged and lots of water damage, people are constantly breaking the lobby doors to take a shortcut to the dining common so there’s not much safety especially at night when they break it and it’s too late for maintenance, laundry rooms are terrible usually only 4 washing machines work and you share with the entire building and they’re also really dirty and need to be replaced....

Joe West does not have air conditioning, so it gets extremely. Rooms are not too bad - large enough that they don't feel like a cage, as long as you don't live in a triple. Inside of the building looks like a maze where serial killers lurk - dark and does not feel comfortable. Elevators are often broken. A nice feature rooms have is a vanity over the dressers. Lived on the fourth floor, so it was really chill, peaceful.

Joe West Hall is a generally average dorm hall. Rooms are not large, bathrooms are decent, and there is no air conditioning. While there are elevators, they often break down and are not a reliable mode of transportation during peak class times. Take the stairs instead, trust me! One of the best things about Joe West is that the Dining Commons and mailroom are attached to the building. There are laundry machines on the ground floor, but you have to walk outside the building to access them and there aren’t enough for the whole building, so you’ll often be waiting a while to get a machine. Each floor has a common lounge or study area, and the themed communities definitely have a sense of community. Joe West is the dorm hall to live in if you w...
